Spotify is the world's leading streaming music provider and has affected all aspects of how music is enjoyed and created. On the music industry side of Spotify - the Music Mission - we think of ourselves as the software layer of the new music industry. We serve the artists, labels, publishers and distributors that make up our industry.

The Music Mission Product Insights Team is a growing insights community of 30+ Data Scientists and User Researchers who blend their skills to help us craft the next generation of music industry products, bringing insights into every decision we make.

We are looking for a User Researcher to join the Music Vertical Platform team in the Music Mission. To power the growing scale, complexity, and business needs of Spotify’s Music Mission, the Music Vertical Platform team builds the core capabilities & platforms that enable creators and their teams to build an audience, monetize fans, and live off their work. You will help us increase our impact on the music industry by ensuring we are delivering a trustworthy product to our users and partners, developing a consistent and coherent core user experience in our products, and enabling our internal teams to quickly iterate and innovate. You will inform the way we build our core platforms to empower feature teams, allowing artists and their teams to find the content and tools they need to achieve success on Spotify and in their careers.

You’ll work as part of a cross-disciplinary team to design and execute research throughout the product development cycle, bringing insights into every decision we make.

What you'll do:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of user researchers, data scientists, product managers, designers, marketers and engineers who are passionate about Spotify’s success.
  • Gain a deep understanding of how products and platforms influence both end-user and internal user behavior, and represent the voice of our users in process.
  • Drive an insights agenda, carrying out research diligently and inventively. You will identify impactful opportunities for product development based on user needs.
  • Be a strategic partner to product development teams by delivering insights that inform the problems we take on and help to craft team roadmaps.
  • Exercise your thought leadership and become a go-to specialist for user research in the Music Mission. Instill standard methodologies, evangelize our work, and influence how user research is executed and delivered in the organization.
  • Be an advocate for data-informed decision-making, enabling our product teams to focus on fulfilling the right needs of our internal customer teams, creators & their teams.

Who you are:

  • Substantial experience in user research in a product development environment.
  • Experience working on platform products.
  • Broad experience of qualitative research methods, with high standards of rigor.
  • Familiar with quantitative research methods, comfortable with metrics and A/B tests, and synthesize quantitative data with qualitative user research.
  • Has a genuine interest in building internal products and solving problems for internal users.
  • Experience crafting and executing impactful projects end-to-end through collaboration and with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Proven ability to effectively influence product strategy through clear and impactful storytelling.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguous and unstructured questions, breaking them down into relevant and concrete research workstreams.
  • You value and have experience coaching and mentoring members of the team to empower them in their development.
  • Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Social Science, a related field, or similar industry experience.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Where you'll be:

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location and is within working hours. Working hours?
  • We operate within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration and ask that our teammates are comfortable working within the hours of that time zone.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here.
