The role:

As our Staff Design Manager, you’ll be responsible for leading and scaling our design function and setting the vision for how design drives product experience. You’ll be responsible for delivering rich, intuitive best-in-class experiences for students, instructors, and coaches by shaping design strategy and elevating craft at the company. As a key member of the leadership team, you’ll partner with leadership across product, engineering, and marketing to drive business outcomes.

What you’ll do:

  • Own and lead a core vertical alongside your PM counterpart and oversee other squads to ensure cohesion and a defined vision

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top design talent, building a culture of collaboration and excellence

  • Manage and coach designers, creating clear-growth paths

  • Establish principles, systems, and processes that ensure design excellence and culture across the organization

  • Shape product vision alongside product by identifying cross-functional opportunities that map to business needs

  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, growth, and ops leadership to address challenges, manage trade-offs, and build a strong team

  • Oversee the strategic roadmap for design and research

  • Implement and evolve our design system to ensure consistency and efficiency

This job is for you if you have:

  • 8+ years of product design experience across a variety of platforms, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role

  • Strong portfolio of work that demonstrates design excellence and impact

  • A deep understanding of the tech that powers digital products, and how to collaborate with engineering to make the most of emerging capabilities

  • Ability to move fluidly between vision, strategy, and hands-on execution

  • Exceptional communicator with experience building relationships with teammates and influencing decisions at a variety of levels and across multiple teams

Bonus points if:

  • You have previous startup experience especially at B2B2C or B2CEdTech/Healthcare companies

  • Experience with A/B testing or other experiment/data driven product development organizations

Compensation:

$160-200k base salary

Compensation for this role will fall within the pay range listed and will be determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications as well as interview evaluation. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.
