As a Product Designer at Coursera, you'll be an integral part of our Design, Research, and Brand Creative teams, which play a vital role in Coursera's success. Your role will translate learner and educator insights into user-centric experience strategies and design solutions that enhance the Coursera platform. Learning and transformation are inherently challenging. We aim to make education accessible to all, and we need extraordinary designers to realize this.

This role oversees our Assessment Learner and Educator Experiences to drive learning outcomes and credential rigor throughout career journeys successfully. Key objectives include helping learners practice, acquire feedback, and demonstrate learning while empowering educators with authoring, curation, and quality-tracking tools to deliver fair and efficacious assessments. 

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with content, teaching, and learning experts to incorporate evidence-based pedagogical strategies into our assessment experience that aid learning growth and rigor. They'll be adept at monitoring trends, AI advancements, and emerging technologies to inform and innovate our assessment offering continuously. The role sits within the Learning Management System, the heart of teaching and learning for all of Coursera's business lines and platform teams. Experience designing for platforms with various user types, and business objectives, and a high degree of competency with systems thinking is essential to maintain scalability, efficiency and innovation. 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify customer and business problems worth solving.
  • Define compelling experience strategies that translate into innovative solutions that drive value.
  • Lead end-to-end design processes, from concept ideation based on research and data insights to human-centered interfaces and interactions that engage and delight.
  • Design scalable, responsive, and accessible experiences that drive business growth while being globally scalable, locally relevant, inclusive, and equitable for all. 
  • Leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design thinking and rationale. 
  • Closely collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, data scientists, content strategists, and researchers.
  • Advocate for learners and educators and influence experience design decisions with peers and stakeholders.
  • Inform and prioritize quarterly roadmaps, projects, and tasks effectively in a strategic Design Lead capacity.
  • Uphold design standards within the team and continuously raise the bar for quality.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience as a UX/Product Designer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing SaaS and enterprise products. 
  • Proficiency in design and systems thinking to facilitate workshops, develop solution frameworks, map information architecture frameworks, create object models, craft user flows and wireframes, and construct prototypes.
  • Expert in responsive and accessible web-based design solutions.
  • Adept at leveraging, optimizing, and contributing to design systems and UI pattern libraries
  • Expert in design, analytics, and collaboration tools like Figma, Amplitude, Full Story, and Jira.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to craft and present a point of view in a compelling way to stakeholders.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts and test design solutions effectively.
  • Able to consider and rationalize the technical difficulty of different designs, finding ways to test concepts as simply as possible. 
  • Experience in new product development and user research.

Nice-To-Have:

  • Experience designing AI products.
  • Experience as a course instructor or teaching assistant. 
  • Experience leading and facilitating large-scale design-thinking workshops.
  • Experience maintaining localized and right-to-left experiences.
  • Hybrid skill set across the design capabilities from UX to interaction and visual design.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $155,040 and $180,234. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
