What You'll Be Doing

  • Rapidly innovating in a rapid innovation space: driving the overall roadmap of our open source service mesh, Kuma, and the commercialization of the open-core product, Kong’s Mesh product.
  • Working closely with product marketing and field teams on enablement, messaging, and go-to-market approaches.
  • Working with internal stakeholders, the rest of our gateway teams, 3rd party partners, the open source community, users and customers, on defining what Kong should be doing in the context of service meshes.
  • Working with our developer advocacy team on engaging and exciting the user base.
  • Working alongside the rest of our product management, development, and go-to-market teams to define how features should be licensed (open source, free but not open source, paid, or SaaS-only).
  • Helping the rest of the company and our users and customers understand what service mesh is, why it’s important, and the important work we’re helping drive in the service mesh space.
  • And any additional tasks required by manager.

What You'll Bring

  • Background in product management (ideally 5+ years).
  • Knowledge of the Kubernetes ecosystem/CNCF.
  • Experience with service meshes and ideally knowledge of Envoy, which our service mesh product is built on top of.
  • A quantitative product management mindset and ability to use tools (Splunk, SQL, etc) to achieve quantitative answers.
  • Experience working with APIs and developers as a primary product audience (ideally: familiarity with the API gateway space).
  • Understanding of how B2B go-to-market motions work (ideally experience helping manage products that have both SaaS and on-premise offerings).
  • Experience in open core/open source is preferred: we need to figure out sustainable business practices built on top of open source as a team.  Kuma -- the service mesh product Kong has been developing and layering commercial options on top of -- has been donated to the CNCF.
  • Excellent communication skills: both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility to a changing set of opportunities and fluency in a fast-paced environment.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.
