About Opendoor:
Founded in 2014, Opendoor’s mission is to empower everyone with the freedom to move. We believe the traditional real estate process is broken and our goal is simple: build a digital, end-to-end customer experience that makes buying and selling a home simple, certain and fast. We have assembled a dedicated team with diverse backgrounds to support more than 100,000 homes bought and sold with us and the customers who have selected Opendoor as a trusted partner in handling one of their largest financial transactions. But the work is far from over as we continue to grow in new markets. Transforming the real estate industry takes tenacity and dedication. It takes problem solvers and builders. It takes a tight knit community of teammates doing the best work of their lives, pushing one another to transform a complicated process into a simple one.  So where do you fit in? Whether you’re passionate about real estate, people, numbers, words, code, or strategy -- we have a place for you. Real estate is broken. Come help us fix it.

About the Team
We’re looking for an experienced mixed-methods researcher to join our Research and Insights team. Your work will lead the way as we reimagine the future of home buying and selling.

Role Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science, and Ops leaders across our Buyer business to help the team ask the right questions, answer them with rigor, create stories that inspire, and experiences that people love.
  • Your work will help us see around corners, affecting both strategy and tactics
  • Conduct generative research that guides the development of new, innovative products to help home buyers with the largest, most complicated transaction of their lives
  • Identify ways for us to improve our experience across all of our touchpoints, including digital tools, physical homes, and customer service interactions
  • Collaborate with teammates across the organization to uncover information gaps and articulate research questions
  • Design and execute research plans to address whatever question is at hand using surveys, concept testing, interviews, ethnography, usability testing, or a new technique that you dream up
  • Share findings in a way that speaks to the diverse members of our team, from executives in San Francisco to Product Marketing Managers in Salt Lake City and Home Project Managers leading renovations in Nashville.
  • You will make the team smarter, faster, and more empathic.
  • Adapt and innovate research practices to meet team needs under the tight timeframes of a rapidly growing company
  • Thrive in a constantly changing environment, helping create order out of chaos and confidence in times of ambiguity
  • Evangelize for high-quality research and user-centered thinking throughout the company

Skills Needed

  • Masters or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Sociology, Psychology, Information Science, Computer Science (or similar), or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of research experience with expertise in a wide range of both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Experience managing projects involving cross-functional teams
  • A track record of discovering, synthesizing, and socializing actionable insights that impact company-wide goals
  • A strong grasp on how to clearly, concisely, and persuasively communicate research findings
  • A self-driven attitude and the initiative to identify research needs and creatively solve problems

Bonus points if

  • A proven researcher with a point of view about how to approach getting to the core of our customers needs and motivations
  • A strong and structured communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Excited to help us continue to build the research team and a customer-focused company culture
