SENIOR USER RESEARCHER

ABOUT THE ROLE: 

As the first in-house user researcher at Current, you’ll play a critical part in establishing the user research function at the company. You’ll work closely with the leadership team and product managers, designers, and data scientists to plan and execute on a research roadmap that helps us deeply understand our members’ financial lives. Your work will inform teams across the company and help influence key product roadmap decisions. 

We’re looking for someone who is extremely comfortable with multiple research methodologies, is eager to partner with the data science team to uncover qualitative and quantitative insights, and is equally excited about foundational, ethnographic research and tactical usability research. Most importantly, we’re eager to bring on someone who is extremely empathetic and is voice for our members as we’re building products that empower their financial lives.

This role is an individual contributor role, but for the right candidate, there is the possibility to step into a lead/manager role as we look to build the research team over the coming months and years.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build a well-rounded understanding of our customers and disperse that understanding throughout the company to level up our collective understanding our member base
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research using a variety of research methodologies to help uncover insights and answer key questions about our target customers
  • Identify research needs in partnership with product and leadership teams, then design, plan, and execute on the highest leveraged work
  • Create, refine, and distribute customer personas and other research-backed collateral that empowers the teams to make customer-centric decisions
  • Collaborate with a team of designers, engineers, and data scientists to identify opportunities for new product experiences and improvements
  • Build a research process and pipeline that the rest of the product team and future researchers can follow as we scale our team and research needs over time
  • Balance tactical and strategic research to deliver high-impact results

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have 5+ years of User Research experience at a consumer-focused company, with a bonus of having worked at high-growth startups
  • You have deep experience using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Strong consumer product and user experience instincts - you have a knack for understanding what people want, digging into what motivates them, and understand when an experience does and doesn’t meet their expectations
  • You’re a great storyteller and have excellent verbal and written communication skills - you regularly document and research insights to your teams and the broader company
  • Not hesitant to get hands dirty and help the team answer questions about our users efficiently
  • Outcome oriented - not reactionary; you can articulate the desired outcome and work collaboratively to create a path to achieve it
