How you’ll make an impact
Product Marketing at Xero is in an exciting and high growth phase. We work closely with Product and Customer teams across the business to bring a holistic view of customer needs to Product, and translate product initiatives into customer value. We do this so that we deliver maximum product value to customers as efficiently & effectively as possible.
In this role, you will be the product marketing lead in helping to grow and develop the Spend Management portfolio, comprising global Xero products that support the accounts payable workflow (Hubdoc, Bills and various other programs). You will be accountable for positioning this product set to new and existing Xero small business customers, which includes clearly articulating the value that they deliver.
You will need to quickly become the go-to expert on the needs of the customer and tie everything together through clear and concise propositions. You will learn, monitor and deeply understand how customers and competitors are changing across all markets and responding to the product proposition.
You will be responsible for driving the adoption and usage of this product set by working closely with the regional commercial leads, marketing and sales teams to achieve the customer and commercial targets. You will also identify future opportunities to deliver differentiated value and work with Product and Customer teams (global and regional) to build and launch new value to market.
You will have a direct report who will support you with the products and programs across the portfolio. You will be an effective leader in helping to grow and develop this person.

What you’ll do

  • You will be a key contributor in assessing market opportunity
  • Collaborate with Strategy, Product Management, Design and other stakeholders to undertake market, competitor and customer research to deeply understand the markets in which we operate as well as customer needs and pain points.
  • Consolidate and communicate relevant insights which determine Xero’s opportunity in market. You should integrate these insights into your product marketing plans.
  • Determine the target audience and segments, in particular the Serviceable Available Market, using insights from Product and Customer teams.
  • You will lead Customer Value Propositions, including development, maintenance, and custodianship throughout Xero
  • Lead a strategic and collaborative process with key stakeholders to define the CVP for target audiences. You will also identify and maintain compelling product evidence of CVPs.
  • Bring CVPs to life for internal audiences, through assets such as messaging frameworks and product playbooks
  • Ensure CVPs are regularly reviewed and updated, in line with changes to customer, competitors and product.
  • You will be the primary Product representative on Go-To-Market programs, to ensure we release product efficiently and effectively
  • Communicate product release calendar to Customer stakeholders in a timely manner, describing product value in customer terms.
  • Collaborate with Customer teams to brief product initiatives, agree optimal launch timing and GTM approach, and consult throughout the GTM process to ensure clear guardrails are set when communicating product value externally.
  • Develop internal briefing assets and internal sales enablement resources to help prepare and up-skill internal teams.
  • You will lead the collaboration with Customer/GTM teams on product growth opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to grow product adoption, usage and retention – utilizing research, analytics and feedback from regions. You will influence relevant Customer/GTM teams to leverage the opportunities you identify.
  • Lead in-product lifecycle marketing strategy and execution, including in-product communications.
  • You will demonstrate strong leadership
  • Manage a direct report who will be located in the same time zone. You will coach and mentor this person to build skills and deliver business outcomes
  • Mentor Product teams on how to productise, price, position and take products to market
  • Lead through influence, building rapport with senior stakeholders to get buy-in and ensure your objectives are prioritized in go-to-market plans and key programs of work
  • Champion Product Marketing within Product and across the business
  • You will be part of the Global Product team so you will work with all our key regions, including Canada, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. You will have the ability to travel if required.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills. You will be part of a geographically dispersed team so collaborating and communicating regularly with stakeholders across geographies is crucial to your success.
  • Customer and commercial targets are achieved or exceeded.
  • New products, features and experiences are taken to market effectively, by collaborating with Product and Customer stakeholders.
  • You have deep subject matter expertise for products in the Spend Management portfolio – including market, customer and product knowledge – and are recognized as the ‘go-to’ expert for stakeholder enquiries.
  • Clear, concise and compelling customer value propositions in market, which bring together multiple products and experiences in a customer workflow. You have an unwavering focus on the customer and advocate for cross-portfolio work where relevant.
  • Customer teams understand the value of all your products, and have the tools, support and resources they need to deliver a great customer experience, and to help grow product adoption, usage and retention.
  • You are a data-driven strategist with strong analytical skills. You will develop an insight-led annual product marketing plan for Spend Management.
  • You continually educate and champion Product Marketing within Product and across the business, and are deeply embedded in product pods throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • You are a highly autonomous and proactive worker who can independently lead programs and self-prioritize workload with minimal guidance required. You are able to work effectively as part of a geographically dispersed team. 
  • You are an active contributor to team culture and engagement, as well as the wider team and purpose.

  • Highly commercial, data-driven marketer with demonstrated experience building cross-sell and product lifecycle strategies based on customer and data insights
  • Lots of initiative and passion, lead virtual teams and work autonomously
  • Excellent written, visual and verbal communicator. Able to understand and translate complex concepts effectively to different audiences and across all levels of a global organization. Also able to influence stakeholders through effective communication
  • Ability to build strong working relationships that allow you to challenge and influence stakeholders whilst still having fun everyday
  • Ability to handle the pace and ambiguity that comes with working in a fast-paced tech environment
  • Experience in a product marketing or marketing role (SaaS experience an advantage)
  • Experience working in a global role across geographies, and in an agile environment with Product Managers and development teams will help you succeed in this role
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting development of product strategy and building new customer value propositions to develop and launch new products or features (use or understanding of Strategyzer framework an advantage)
  • Proven ability to communicate, build strong relationships and manage senior stakeholders
  • Proven experience in the creation and development of product strategy, positioning and messaging
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes at all levels from individual contributor to executive level leader
  • Experience managing and developing people
