GitLab's DevOps platform empowers 100,000+ organizations to deliver software faster and more efficiently. We are one of the world’s largest all-remote companies with 1,400+ team members and values that guide a culture where people embrace the belief that everyone can contribute.

Our entire handbook is public. You can find the details of our vision & direction, check out how we structure our R&D teams and understand how our UX team operates.

A brief overview:

As a Senior Product Designer at GitLab, you will work 1:1 with a Product Manager and be embedded in our Plan: Product Management team. You'll design features for our highly-visible planning and planning analytics capabilities that empower small, autonomous teams.

What you can expect in a Senior Product Designer, Plan role at GitLab:

  • You'll work on our planning tools and planning analytics capabilities. These features are adopted by many teams within the 100,000+ organizations that use GitLab.
  • You'll work alongside UX Researchers, Product Managers, other Product Designers, and Engineers to iterate on new features and user journeys within the GitLab product.
  • You'll utilize wireframes, prototypes, sketches, user flows, mockups, hi-fidelity visual designs, and any other artifacts you believe are necessary to convey your design thinking and ideas.
  • You'll engage with our user base and the wider GitLab community to understand their pain points and work toward long-term fixes that enable them to achieve their goals.
  • You'll partner with UX Researchers & PMs on problem validation studies to understand the problem space you're operating within.
  • You'll leverage solution validation studies to validate your solutions and proposed directions.
  • You'll gather user needs through user interviews or contextual inquiries and will convert those into user requirements.

Projects you might work on in our Plan group:

The Plan: Product Management team is exploring how best to consolidate Epics, Issues, and Requirements into a shared, core primitive of Work Items. You'll lead design and partner with a cross-functional team as you aim to solve our customer's current Jobs To Be Done, increase our System Usability Scale score, and increase productivity for our users during the collaboration process.

You should apply if:

  • You've got experience working as a product designer for a complex B2B application or SaaS tool.
  • You enjoy getting involved in discovery research and solution validation, and you continually look to improve your user research abilities.
  • You're able to showcase work that shows us your ability to create the deliverables required for this role. For example, JTBD, competitive evaluations, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity mockups, prototypes, journey maps, storyboards, design vision, and so on.
  • The idea of playing a part in the evolution of our Pajamas Design System is truly exciting to you.
  • You have experience using Git.
  • You understand frontend code or the limitations of frontend technology. You can demonstrate this through your hands-on coding skills with HTML/CSS/JS/Vue, or by showing us you have a deep understanding of the needs of engineers you've worked with previously.
  • Our values of collaboration, results, efficiency, diversity, iteration, and transparency resonate with you.
  • You'll thrive in an environment where self-learning and self-service are encouraged and instilled as a part of our culture.

What it's like to work at GitLab:

The culture at GitLab is something we're incredibly proud of. You'll spend your time collaborating with kind, talented, and motivated colleagues from across the globe.

Some of the benefits you'll be entitled to vary by the region or country you're in. However, all GitLab team members are fully remote and receive a "no ask, must tell" paid-time-off policy, where we don't count the number of days you take off annually.

You can work incredibly flexible hours, enabled by our asynchronous approach to communication. We'll also help you set up your home office environment, pay for your membership to a co-working space and contribute to the travel costs associated with meeting other GitLab employees across the world. Also, every year or so, we'll invite you to our Contribute event.
