Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. Affirm, Inc. proudly includes Affirm, PayBright, and Returnly.

People’s relationship with their money is deeply personal. They make decisions based on their means, whether purchasing necessities or investing in their future. We use design to rethink what personal finance can do for these individuals. We build experiences that give them freedom, security, knowledge, and a better quality of life.

Design serves a vital role at Affirm: from building narratives through data to creating products that help people make important financial decisions. As designers, we are responsible for crafting experiences that solve problems people struggle with every day. We hold design to a higher standard than most. It’s more than a tactic to build great products. It’s a helping hand, a new opportunity, a vision for the future. For us, design reshapes people's relationships with money and allows us to engage with them emotionally.

As a Senior Product Designer in the Merchant Experience pod, you will lead and continue to drive strategically impactful solutions for our merchants.  Our goal is to deliver honest financial products that improve the lives of Affirm merchants. We help businesses accelerate their growth and offer more to the consumers they care tirelessly about. We accomplish this through design and data, looking through growth funnels for onboarding, building partner integrations, or exploring services to bring new capabilities to our merchants. This team thinks about empowering small businesses - offering more ways to market to industry leaders and innovating in different ways to facilitate commerce. In this role, you will work alongside a design team of six, including product design, user research, and content strategy. You’ll also build bridges to become a trusted partner with cross-functional associates in product management, analytics, engineering, and others. Your role is to create unforgettable experiences that unify user needs and business outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Analytics, and Engineering partners to represent the design team, facilitate design discussions and give feedback in planning and product channels.
  • Think holistically about complex systems, empathize with customers, and understand business goals to create compelling and effective user experiences
  • Work closely with User Research to help synthesize and communicate research findings to inform business decisions and build an even greater understanding of and empathy for our customers.
  • Work closely with Content Design to ensure we are delivering the right message and the right time to the right people.
  • Solicit feedback early and often from your peers, including other product designers and teammates in your product team. Participate in weekly design critiques.
  • Mentor and support other designers
  • Help maintain our design system with other product designers, and advocate for scalable design solutions.
  • Scale designs from discovery through delivery, leveraging the right tools at the right moments to make the most significant impact.
  • Navigate ambiguity, acknowledge tradeoffs, and influence others to produce the best outcomes for the business and customer.

What we look for

  • You have a minimum of 5 years of individual contributor product design experience and have a relevant portfolio to show your skills.
  • You are proficient in both sides of the design double diamond - you can take a project from discovery and iteration through delivery without breaking a sweat.
  • You pride yourself on a user-centered design approach.
  • You are highly collaborative and bring a low-ego approach to design.
  • You assume positive intent always, and look to encourage and elevate others’ work in addition to your own.
  • You have experience working with engineers, product managers, content strategists, and user researchers to drive strategy, vision, and execution.
  • You find a meaningful balance between optimizing for speed and quality and taking on risky-yet-interesting work.
  • You have experience delivering merchant services and business-to-business software.
