Our mission

Definitely not a sweet shop.

We're the tech company making insurance more accessible and more affordable for as many people as possible.

We’re proud of our journey so far. We’ve helped hundreds of thousands of customers get fairer cover, all while being rated excellent on Trustpilot. But we’re just getting started.

Over the next 2 years, we’re planning to help even more people by launching products and services across different sectors and countries 🚀

If you're looking for a challenge, our next chapter is set to be an exciting one 🙌

How we work

We've created a culture of trust which allows us to work autonomously without fear of failure, to challenge decisions, and be heard. It empowers us to drive our own careers and to move at unparalleled speed. And because we're treading new ground, we're all mastering new skills along the way.

The Design Team

At Marshmallow, we work to revolutionise the insurance industry – it's not just about rethinking how people buy cover or make a claim. We want to reduce the distress caused by accidents and personal disasters - and one day remove it altogether! So, where do you come into that?

As a team of designers, writers and researchers, we identify the needs of our customers to make sure we're prioritising and building the right thing that supports people in their hour of need, and makes them safer in the first place. We work collaboratively across the company, breaking silos to create a seamless experience.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Product Designer who can easily balance commercial thinking with design to work across our Acquisition team – focusing on improving the first interaction our customers have with Marshmallow. Acquisition is responsible for growing Marshmallow’s customer base by targeting customers with the right product, pricing and checks. This part of the business encompasses Marketing, Growth and Fraud.

You’ll lead the design process across a large remit through discovery, implementation and validation. On top of that, you’ll work collaboratively and closely with our other designers to raise the bar for design at Marshmallow.

What you’ll be doing

  • Overseeing multiple streams of work. The remit of acquisition is large and encompasses Growth, Fraud as well as Marketing – you’ll need to have strong organisation and prioritisation skills to ensuring you can quickly adapt to focus on the biggest areas of impact.

  • Driving big picture thinking with senior stakeholders, product managers, designers, and engineers to create compelling visions and alignment across teams. You’ll help align the team on how we should be approaching work and help educate on how they are contributing to our overarching goals.

  • Collaborating across an end-to-end experience. You’ll be working across the entire experience from purchasing a policy to activating the policy in the app. This will involve design for internal and external customers and working effectively with multiple teams.

  • Optimising an existing flow to drive better conversion and upsell rates. With the large remit, comes different types of work – on top of big picture thinking you would be working with engineers and data to continuously iterate and push small changes to the product.

  • Understanding the needs of our customers. You’ll deeply understand customer needs and will strive to understand the what, why, and how of the problems you’re solving. You’ll use an evidence-based approach to product development while balancing business needs.

  • Implementing high-quality, clear designs. Using design principles and best practices you’ll make rationale that helps our customers when they interact with Marshmallow.

  • Validating product and design decisions. Working with data and research you'll ensure your work is validated to reduce backtracking and enable the team to move quickly. You'll work with measures in place to make sure we're moving the needle on business and customers needs.

  • Contributing to the development of design across the organisation by empowering and educating others through pairing, workshops, training sessions and reviews.

You should apply if

  • You have an experimental mindset. You know that small changes can end in big results. You are energised and also comfortable at running quick experiments enabling your team to learn and iterate effectively.

  • You enjoy digging into data – looking through dashboards and working with others to understand the impact your work has had on the funnel.

  • You can ruthlessly prioritise work using an evidence-based approach. You balance business and users' needs, focusing on work that will bring the biggest benefits to the team.

  • You are customer-obsessed. You are passionate about gaining a deep understanding of our customer's needs and behaviours. You can easily communicate them to the wider business.

  • You have a high tolerance for ambiguity and are proactive at identifying opportunities and actively look at how to unblock and drive your team forward.

This isn't for you if

  • You like working on discrete problems. The projects at Marshmallow often cross over into different platforms and teams. You'll need to be comfortable at working collaboratively and drawing alignment in both your team and across teams.

  • You need top-down direction. We work autonomously within our squads to align and drive forward the direction of our products. You will also need to be able to hold your own as a sole designer within your squad.

  • You stop once your work has been released. We're looking for someone who wants to release, track and continuously improve their work, learning from our customers how to make it better.

Perks of the job

  • Fast-paced environment - A very strong team of ambitious and collaborative people, who are motivated to do their best work

  • Hybrid work - Spend 3 days a week with your team in our London office

  • Competitive bonus scheme - designed to reward and recognise high performance 🌟

  • Flexible benefits budget - £50 per month to spend on a Ben Mastercard meaning you get your own benefits budget to spend on things you want. Whether that’s subscriptions, night classes (puppy yoga, anyone?), the big shop or a forest of houseplants. Pretty much anything goes 💰

  • Mental wellbeing support – Access therapy and mental health sessions through Oliva 💚

  • Learning and development – Personal budgets for books and training courses to help you grow in your role. Plus 2 days a year - on us! - to further your skillset 🤓

  • Private health care - Enjoy all the benefits Vitality has to offer, including reduced gym memberships and discounts on smartwatches 🏥

  • Medical cash plan - To help you with the costs of dental, optical and physio (plus more!)

  • Tech scheme - Get the latest tech for less 🖥

Plus all the rest; 33 days holiday (including bank holidays), pension, cycle to work scheme, monthly team socials and company-wide socials every month!

Our process

We break it up into 4 stages:

  • Initial call with Luke Watts our Talent Acquisition Partner (45 mins)

  • 1 x behavioural interview (60 minutes)

  • Design Challenge (90 minutes)

  • Culture interview (60 minutes)

We’ll let you know if you’re invited to an interview or not. But, as a small team with a lot of applications to consider, we can’t give individual feedback on each application
