Senior Product Designer - Design Systems

As Checkout.com continues to build the next generation of online payment solutions and financial products, the role of Design within the organisation is becoming more critical with each day!

As a Senior Product Designer at Checkout.com you'll push design and innovation on the design system. Alongside your peers, you'll contribute to the continuous improvement of our ways of working, culture, and help optimise processes across the entire Design organisation.

You'll be pushing the design system forward alongside your peers, turning insights from real users into simple, beautiful, and well-designed products supporting both user needs and business goals. You'll be embedded within the design system team and collaborate across the entire business to drive difficult, nebulous or sensitive work. You'll make sense of complex problems and cut through to elegant solutions. Although you'll be embedded within the design system team, you'll participate in multiple initiatives across the entire Design organisation!

What you'll be doing

  • Work within the Design Systems initiative to evolve the design language across all products and verticals.
  • Be responsible for your overall component quality, from discovery to delivery, documentation and application of system principles.
  • Produce guidelines and documentation across foundational elements, components and patterns.
  • Seek feedback to improve the design system ease of use, quality and effectiveness of documentation
  • Partner with design and engineering communities to enable collaboration and adoption.
  • Assist with maturing the design organisation by demonstrating cross-discipline collaboration in all design system activities
  • Mentor other Designers through all parts of component design processes

Bonus skills

  • The online payments / finance industry.
  • Experience in designing WCAG compliant, accessible interfaces
  • Experience creating interactive, rich prototypes (With tools such as Framer, Axure, Principle)

About you

  • You care deeply. You believe you have a civic responsibility to your fellow human being that everything is made in the pursuit of perfection. You welcome criticism.
  • You're not an island. You can show and tell us how you've helped the people around you get better.
  • You think in systems. You can anticipate the ripple effects of small and large changes will have on user experiences. You can demonstrate the ability to think about interfaces in an abstracted manner separately from user journeys.
  • You're an enabler of peers. You work in partnership with engineering and design system communities (consumers and contributors).
  • You're detailed. You have a strong attention to detail to ensure the quality of design system deliveries are high.
  • You want to make accessible solutions. You want to design for accessibility and ensure Checkouts design system meets our company Accessibility Definition “All colleagues and customers have equal access to checkouts products and services regardless of their ability, age, education, race, nationality, or disabilities. We leverage accessibility as a usability amplifier for all by placing accessibility at the core of our decision-making.”
  • You highly prize being accountable. You take ownership for every action, confess faults and failures, strive for better, and build trust.
  • You place quality over speed, but you iterate and improve as swiftly as possible.
  • You're self motivated and can work independently. We trust you to take the initiative making sure everyone has everything they need.
  • You love learning. You might not have experience for everything this role requires, but you're excited to grow and learn - sometimes 'wearing many hats' in a team.
If you don't meet all the requirements but think you might still be right for the role, please apply anyway. We're always keen to speak to people who connect with our mission and values.

We'll ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.
