Spotify’s mission is to unlock the potential of human creativity by giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their work and billions of fans the opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by it. The Music Mission team owns Spotify’s end to end proposition for music creators and the experiences they create for fans. The team is dedicated to building tools and services to enable creation, promotion, expression, and monetization at scale.
The Music Expression team is focused on enabling creative expression through and around music by artists, aspiring creators, and fans. Our products are used at scale—over 1M active artists in Spotify for Artists and more than 380M listeners. We’re looking for an experienced Product Design Manager to drive the design vision and strategy for our new team exploring the future of visual expression formats and to help artists connect with and engage their fans on Spotify. This team builds for both Spotify for Artists and the Spotify app, across web and mobile.
What you’ll do:
- Directly manage a small team of designers, supporting them as they drive their personal and professional growth.
- Partner with Product, Tech, and Insights leads to collectively set the mission for a growing organization. You will help encourage this group to be healthy, and impactful.
- Lead projects across the entire product lifecycle — from concept to MVP to rollout and beyond. You set the vision for the content experience and build space for others to collaborate.
- Bring user-centric thinking to technically sophisticated problems. We craft user outcomes that are powered by machine learning models. It’s important to not to lose sight of the needs of the listener and the creator.
- Challenge the status quo on creativity and quality of design work across the team.
- Promote your team’s work to drive alignment across the other teams.
- Proactively look for and tackle high-level issues and opportunities.
Who you are:
- You have experience managing designers and UX writers in a fast-paced product development environment.
- You possess a proven track record of working on audio and visual experiences for creator communities.
- You are a leader with practical design chops you don’t mind dusting off from time to time. You’ve shipped many consumer products over the years, and understand what it takes to build meaningful customer-first product experiences.
- You have a keen eye for detail and can give effective direction and direct feedback to designers on the team — we appreciate radical candor!
- You’re an excellent communicator, both written and verbal. You have the communication skills to help set up frameworks and brainstorm initial design concepts. You also have the ability to mentor others to deliver work, and make strategy come to life.
- You tackle opportunities that are ambiguous and vague. You do this by understanding the people involved in the project, what the project needs, and using everyone’s strengths to achieve the project’s goals.
- You have an online portfolio or PDF that you can share with us. A link to your online portfolio, or a PDF, is required. Applications without a portfolio are unlikely to be considered.
Where you’ll be:
- We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode best for them!
