We are open to hiring this role in our established U.S. entities, as well as UK and Ireland.

About This Role

Strava is the leading subscription platform at the center of connected fitness, with more than 100 million community members in over 190 countries. The platform offers a holistic view of your active lifestyle, no matter where you live, which sport you love, and/or what device you use. Everyone belongs on Strava when they are pursuing an active life!

Our Growth Product Design Org is growing, and are looking for a highly motivated senior product design manager to lead design efforts and strategy across the org. This team contains lifecycle teams like New User Activation and Subscriber Acquisition, as well as platform capabilities like the Feed Team, the Pricing Team, and the Communications Platform Team. Its charter is to help athletes fall in love with Strava by showing them the value of our free and paid products. In addition, the teams focus on building growth capabilities and features that can be leveraged by product teams, growth teams, product marketing, and CRM to help athletes move through the user lifecycle.

In this role, you will collaborate across the company to continue to evolve the platform and processes that shape our growth product strategy, roadmap, and the athlete experience on Strava. You’ll be responsible for some of the most critical aspects of our athletes’ experience, including onboarding and activation, merchant data and insights, business management tools, and new platform opportunities. You will play a lead role in supporting the growth and development of a highly talented team that designs experiences our athletes love and rave about, align team development with company goals and values, continue to evolve our design system, and champion the voice of the athlete throughout the organization.

Strava is passionate about supporting our athletes and employees by building equitable and inclusive policies, programs, practices, and experiences. Therefore, our design leaders must share similar passions and are committed to helping develop and incorporate inclusive and antiracist strategies into our culture, processes, and product.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Led the team of designers across all phases of the design process, from vision to implementation.
  • Lead multiple sophisticated and large-scale strategic projects that are deemed business critical.
  • Be responsible for working with engineering, product, and analytics leaders across the Growth Organization to determine strategy and set direction for the various Growth teams.
  • Help shape the expansion of the Growth Organization and ensure that the teams are oriented toward business and athlete impact.
  • Understand how to orient teams around a set of metrics and how to reason about which metrics a team should choose.
  • Reduce friction in user journeys to rapidly introduce users to the value of a product.

You will be successful here by:

  • Your Leadership and coaching skills — you can energize your reports to deliver excellent results while keeping them happy and engaged, supporting team balance through additional hiring and shaping the growth org.
  • Ability to align high-quality design work with athlete delight, company objectives, and a sense of a holistic and straightforward cross-app experience.
  • Having a highly collaborative and alignment-centric mindset with product leadership and growth organization leads to co-define future-looking initiatives.
  • Leveraging your growth experience (and ideally exposure to subscription services) to help shape output + impact of all the growth work and create growth user journeys the whole company can get behind.
  • Fostering an environment that evolves our process by combining rapid experimentation, analytics, and user research with building high quality, low-friction experiences that athletes understand the value of and that move metrics you’ve helped create priority and conviction around.
  • An ability to think about user life cycles, reusability, consistency, and scale: knowing when to pursue systems and frameworks vs. one-offs in collaboration with other orgs like Brand.

We’re excited about you because:

  • 3+ years of experience managing, supporting, and growing experienced design teams.
  • Have a growth mindset, passion for learning, and willingness to adapt and evolve your perspective when collaborating with teammates who bring different backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise.
  • Experience partnering across the organization to help teams with complementary skills and perspectives (e.g., product management, engineering, qualitative research, data & analytics, customer support) come together to form a complete picture of a problem or opportunity.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), collaborative mindset, and ability to persuade and inspire project teams, peers, and stakeholders of the value of a people-centered design approach.
  • Deep passion and understanding for people-centered design and methodologies integrating multiple types of data (e.g., qualitative findings, market research, survey data, analytics, competitive landscape) into a singular strategic point of view.
  • Deep, hands-on experience and shareable examples of leading various design projects from start to finish across all stages of a product lifecycle (discovery to go-to-market), demonstrating business strategies, design thinking, and collaboration to balance user needs and business goals.
