Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

The Risk team works to protect the people that trust Square, by minimizing the financial risks that come with running a business. We keep our sellers safe while $25B+ flows through Square annually, and along the way help each other make calculated risk/reward trade offs to grow sellers, and make complicated and sometimes painful processes understandable to all.

We are looking for a Sr. Content Designer to join Risk in delivering critical knowledge and experiences to our sellers that help them make sense of these complex situations in money movement—getting sellers their money faster and protecting them along the way. You will work alongside product designers, product managers, researchers, engineering, and legal to increase usability and ease of use across Risk experiences—simultaneously shaping the processes we will rely on to grow and scale the Content Design function alongside other writers on Risk and across the company.

**For consideration, please submit a link to your portfolio and any relevant passwords**

You Will:

  • Lead from a content-first perspective and influence the shape some of the most complex and ambiguous aspects of risk experiences
  • Be hands-on—writing and editing copy across important risk experiences. This includes the smallest micro copy to the most visible headlines and everything in between.
  • Drive best practices for Content Design in collaboration with other content designers on Risk and across the company.
  • Build relationships with cross-functional team members and lead across the organization.
  • Partner with marketing writers to define how our brand voice is expressed within our products.
  • Help the Product Design team become more efficient by developing processes and workflows for working with Content Design.
  • Apply metrics, data, design research, user testing, customer support insights, and more to inform content and language decisions.
  • Manage and prioritize your workload of multiple projects with different collaborators.
  • Continue building a solid foundation for a growing Content Design discipline as our organization scales.

Qualifications

  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience
  • A portfolio with examples of previous content design work specifically showing how you improved user experience on large-scale programs through language, from interface copy to style guides and beyond.
  • Experience being embedded in a product design team with whom you'll collaborate closely.
  • Comfort providing feedback on UI/UX designs, asking thoughtful questions about product strategy, and applying insights from quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Experience using design software tools like Figma and Sketch.

Added Bonus Experience:

  • Content strategy experience
  • Technical writing experience
  • Marketing or brand writing experience
