Our mission at Airtable is to democratize software creation. Every community, curator, and corgi parent has different goals. Their potential amplifies if they have the right tools to help get work done.

The barriers to building custom software are significant: specialized knowledge, time investment, high cost. At Airtable, we’re working to remove those barriers so orders of magnitude more people will be able to create, customize, and supercharge their own software. Design is at the core of that work, as we take on the challenge of evolving and reinterpreting decades-old concepts such as database creation, control flow, and usability, and craft an accessible platform that everyone is empowered to use.

About Growth Design at Airtable

As an organization, Growth makes up one of the three pillars of our product development org (the other two: Core and Platform. Imaginative, we know). There’s currently four designers and two researchers on this team. As a growth designer at Airtable, you’ll be defining, developing, and refining the growth design practices here at Airtable. However, we make no distinction between our product development pillars – you may move cross-team later if it suits your career growth.

What you’ll do as a designer on Growth

  • Take a multi-surface, customer journey-centered approach: You’ll regularly be working across teams, synthesizing disparate data points to find new opportunities to build long-term product improvements that encourage deep, team-wide product engagement. You design for the user, their team and the platform — what learnings are repeatable and scalable across a wide range of users and use cases.

  • Focus on many flavors of Growth: This team has elements of Acquisition, Activation, Pricing & Monetization, and you’ll work with a wide range of cross functional partners including: UX research, engineering, PM, product marketing, content design, and our customer support, sales, edu, and implementation specialist teams. If you like building and defining both the map of where to focus as well as the designs themselves, Growth is the team for you.

  • Balance fast iteration and systemic improvements: Growth designers opt for velocity and learning – sometimes you may design a new interaction; other times you’ll look less at pixels and more at existing data or reframing existing decisions. You have (or are interested in developing) an intuition for when to use coarse or fine sandpaper in your approaches. If you like wielding a wide design toolkit from running optimization experiments to whiteboarding or rethinking things from scratch, you may be a good fit for Growth.

  • Uncover user, product, and business incentives: As Airtable continues to grow, Growth design is uniquely positioned to find the intersection of what users are looking for, how that influences product direction to bring more opportunities, and how that ultimately leads to scaling the business. If you like building sustainable growth loops (or are interested in learning how to), this is the team for you.

What you’ll do, like all product designers do:

  • Think deeply about making powerful tools easy to use: This is a complex problem space that needs to distill down into simple design solutions. You’ll immerse yourself in company strategy and exchange ideas with our passionate team of researchers, data scientists, and customer specialists to understand our biggest growth opportunities. You will be able to think holistically about the architecture and systems that make Airtable work.

  • A very satisfying amount of design: You’ll design and ship extremely high-quality features and workflows and feel a veritable sense of ownership throughout the process. This responsibility comes with all the trappings of what it means to be a sharp designer: generating your own ideas, collaborating with teammates and stakeholders to refine them, crafting mockups and prototypes with polish. You’ll partner with engineering and understand technical constraints and how to make pragmatic tradeoffs on your designs.

  • Shape our strategy: Designers partner with PM to build roadmaps, goals, and success metrics focused on the most exciting and high-impact problems. Everyone on the team has a voice to give structure to a vision, even in the “what if” stage.

  • See Airtable through the eyes of our customers: We have a fascinatingly diverse customer base, which means a broad set of customer needs. You’ll partner with our researchers, customer success managers, and others to understand the goals of customers in many industries, and conduct interviews and feedback sessions alongside our researchers.

  • Help our design team thrive: The design culture at Airtable is a living, breathing group effort. You’ll be regularly contributing to critiques, hosting working sessions, and growing our design system.

Who you are

  • You gravitate towards complex problems: There’s no shortage of challenging, tangly problems to solve at Airtable. If the ideas of mind-boggling ambiguity, torrential brainstorming, and feeling overwhelmed by possibilities have you nodding “yes” at this screen, we have some ideas about what you can work on.

  • You like saying “we” more than “I”: Your team will be a collaborative bunch, and you’ll be working closely with other designers, engineers, PMs, data scientists, researchers, and more. We are greater than the sum of our parts.

  • You just go for it: There are lots of opportunities to have a measurable impact as a self-starter at Airtable. You don’t hesitate to champion a good idea until it turns into something that works.

  • You’re not afraid to ask a “spicy” question: Growing our product, team, and culture means reflecting and sometimes challenging our practice and approach. We are open to adapting and growing.

  • You inspire your colleagues to be the best versions of themselves: We authentically admire and respect each other, and we think that motivates us to create great work.

  • You can weather a growth spurt: Things change a lot around here — just when you have your head around a process, we outgrow it. We're looking for people who are patient with uncertainty and can help us rise to the occasion of each new moment in our company's rapid growth.

What We Offer

  • We have your medical, dental, and vision insurance 100% covered (and your dependents covered at 80%)
  • High deductible health plan available with health savings account contribution
  • Complimentary One Medical membership for individuals and dependents
