About the team

Flourish is the world’s leading data storytelling platform. It enables anyone to create beautiful graphics and interactive stories without coding. Since its launch in 2018, more than 750,000 registered users have produced around 10 million graphics, which have racked up more than 20 billion views. Our customers range from leading newsrooms and corporations to NGOs, universities and government departments all over the world.

Flourish was recently acquired by Canva to empower the world to tell stories with data. Our team, mostly based in London, will continue growing Flourish as a separate product while also adding more data storytelling features natively in Canva.

We're looking for a creative and flexible Designer who can help us improve the UX and UI on Flourish, the world's leading data visualization platform. As the main Designer on the team, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the product, reporting to thve Head of Product and shaping the look and feel of the main application, the marketing site and the company's overall visual footprint.

What you'll be working on:

  • Create designs for key areas of the Flourish product, such as overhauling our interactive visualization chooser to inspire and educate users about what can be created with Flourish
  • Ensure product designs meet user need and address pain points via user testing and working closely with our user researcher
  • Bring a design eye to our library of visualizations and themesRedesigning our marketing site – both the generic templates and “special” pages showing off cool, interactive Flourish visualizations, scrollytelling, etc
  • Create prototypes and mockups in Figma or HTML/CSS to inspire the team and allow quick testsHelp shape and execute Flourish's visual language, working with others on the team, including design templates for marketing, social, etc

The design skills we’re looking for:


  • We'll be reviewing your portfolio to look for demonstrable skills across at least two of:
  • Digital product UX/UI design
  • Responsive web design
  • Information design/visualization

  • In addition, we want you to be able to demonstrate skills including:
  • Ability to convert user problems into product solutionsMaking design and prototypes in Figma
  • While we don't expect engineering skills, front-end web skills (HTML/CSS/JS) would be a plus.
Experience and person spec:
- Genuine interest in graphics and interactive content – i.e. charts, maps, visualisations, information design
- Highly collaborative and keen to work across teams, but also self-directed (since you will be one-person design team for now)
- Experience working with Software Engineers and ideally also User Testers or UX researchers
