Canva’s Commitment and Mission
At Canva, we celebrate diversity. We deeply believe that bringing together diversity of thoughts, perspectives and expression is key to building the best product, team and company. We mean it when we say we want to create a diverse and inclusive workplace where we value all different types of experiences and want to create a space and culture where you feel like you belong.

We know it can be a tricky time applying for roles, wondering if the role is right for you and if you and your experience are right for the role too. Many people won’t apply for roles unless they feel that they tick every single box. At Canva we look for many different skills and abilities and we’re always looking for how new team members can add to Canva and our culture. So if you don’t think you quite meet all of the skills listed, we’d still love to hear from you!

Our mission at Canva is to empower the world to design and since launching in 2013, we have grown exponentially, amassing over 80 million monthly active users across 190 different countries and a team of over 2,800 people… and the best bit is that we’ve only achieved 1% of what we know we’re capable of.

Be a Force for Good
We’re driven by our values, with our ‘Be a Force for Good’ value supporting everything that we do. Through your work on our product or team, and our community initiatives and sustainability programs, you’re given the opportunity to come to Canva and make a tangible difference to the lives of others in your day-to-day life. In addition to our Founder’s 30% Pledge, Canva is committed to Pledge 1% and actively encourage our team to participate in many ways, including taking paid volunteer leave.

Your journey with Canva could take you to places that you might not even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.

Join us and design your future.

About the Product Design team

One of the principles of our design specialty is to ‘show the future’. As designers, we transport the rest of the company into a future we’re yet to build. A big part of the role of a product designer at Canva is to be a visionary – by visualising and reinventing the future of design for our users.
Product designers at Canva take the dream and make it something everyone can relate to and rally behind. We start from the very early stages: finding the right problem to tackle, exploring ideas for how to solve it and then refining it into a coherent solution.
Our product designers carry out research, brainstorming, sketching, prototyping, and collaboration with our engineers to ship products. We are empathetic user advocates and respect our users’ opinions through interviews, usability testing, and data analysis, as well as wireframing, flowcharting, and journey mapping to show the different stages that customers go through as they come into contact with Canva.

About the Design Automation team

The Design Automation team is on a mission to make Canva the fastest and easiest design tool in the world – leveraging automation and artificial intelligence to create magical experiences for Canva’s users.
Data science and user research is a huge part of our team’s focus, as much of our work is exploratory and forward-thinking. Our focus is not limited to a specific set of features or a particular area of the product – our insights and discoveries often lead us to pursue projects that require close collaboration with other teams. Curiosity, creativity and communication skills are critical to our team’s success!
We are looking for someone who can solve complex problems with a systematic approach in a fast-paced environment. Working within a cross-functional team you’ll be collaborating to deliver new products that will have a large-scale impact on Canva and end-users.

What you’ll do

  • Lead product design across a key workstream in the Design Automation team, which is an exploratory space at Canva; Automating user’s design process, using Composition AI
  • Conduct user, market and competitor research
  • Design solutions that use innovative technology
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, data analysts and other designers
  • Clearly communicate to and collaborate with folks across Canva, including group leads, design leaders and founders – providing clarity through clear articulation of vision and strategy
  • Help shape the long-term goals and milestones

About you

  • You're an end-to-end Product Designer whose strengths are in research and exploring ambiguous problem spaces. You're passionate about innovative technology such as AI and Machine Learning, and truly believe it can play a role in shaping the design process.
  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates your experience designing simple, elegant solutions to complex problems, resulting in positive outcomes for users
  • A deep understanding of user research methodologies, and a demonstrably empathetic approach to design
  • A creative problem solver that shows enthusiasm in the face of complex or ambiguous problems
  • Experience demonstrating successful collaboration with engineers, product managers, data analysts and other functions
  • A strong sense of design ethics – with an understanding that the design decisions we make at Canva impact millions of lives, everyday
  • A confident presenter that can rally the team around a new project and communicate the goals and new concepts to stakeholders
  • Experience working with data
