Bloom & Wild is re-inventing the $60B global flower industry. Over a billion flower exchanges take place every year and industry satisfaction levels are low. Driven by our vision of creating the destination for making life a little more thoughtful and beautiful, we do things differently. From inventing letterbox flowers to founding The Thoughtful Marketing Movement. And we’ve seen impressive traction to date - we are Europe’s leading online flower company, and the UK’s fastest growing ecommerce company according to the Financial Times, growing at +100%.

In January 2021 we announced our £75 million Series D funding round, led by General Catalyst (backers of Airbnb and Deliveroo), alongside other top tier investors including Index Ventures (investors in Wise and Glossier). We are home to a family of 3 strong brands, Bloom & Wild, boomon and Bergamotte, having acquired bloomon in April 2021 and Bergamotte in July 2021. Together, we are active in 8 countries.

We really care about creating a diverse and inclusive team and we welcome people from all backgrounds, with different perspectives, ideas and experiences to work with us. In our team, everyone has the freedom to give their opinion, grow in their career and be part of a genuinely caring and inclusive team.

Product at Bloom & Wild
The role of the product team at Bloom & Wild is to create value for our customers and for Bloom & Wild by developing user facing (e.g. website, apps) and internal digital product (e.g. warehouse technologies). We are a team of 15 people including Product Managers and Product Designers who report to the Chief Product Officer with the team located in London, Amsterdam and fully remote. Over 60% of our Product team identify as female.
We have 5 squads which work in fortnightly sprints to deliver outcome focussed quarterly OKRs. Each of these squads is responsible for all the strategic decision making within their Product area with an associated Product Manager.
The design team operates as a Centralised Partnership model — operating as a team across eCommerce, Apps and Design Systems, while embedded in squads. We champion the user and foster collaboration to craft thoughtful, distinctive and easy to use experiences that create value, across multiple brands and platforms.
Our eComm and Apps team is formed of 3 web squads that reflect the customer journey and 1 squad that supports both our Android and iOS apps. Each squad includes a Product Manager, Product Designer, Engineering Manager, Engineers and Testers who work collaboratively with analysts, researchers and stakeholders. As we continue to level up and scale our digital product experience to support three brands across 8 countries, we’re looking for a freelance product designer to join our team as an Individual Contributor.
This role will start as leading the delivery in our Acquisition and Discovery squad and eventually transition into the Apps squad to support both our iOS and Android apps.
Acquisition and Discovery
The Acquisition and Discovery squad is a squad formed with a mission of building an outstanding browsing experience that drives efficient acquisition and fulfils a broad range of shopping missions whilst maximising the lifetime value of our customers.
- Creating a delightful, personalised browse experience that allows customers to navigate our range and buy with confidence, making sure that it is also tailored depending on the customer mission and market.
- Driving awareness and consideration of our non- core ranges including Plants and Subscriptions.
Apps
The apps squad is formed with a mission of creating an engaging app experience that makes ordering flowers on the go easy, delightful and personal. They app is key to driving loyalty and retention.
Creating compelling reasons to download our App that differentiate the experience from the web experience and from our competitors.
Finding new and exciting ways to engage our App customers.
Finding ways to make it even easier to order flowers and gifts on the go, whilst finding ways to make that experience even more joyful - whether someone is opening the App to browse, purchase or manage their order.
We are a rapidly growing, multi-brand, international business and you will need to balance high levels of ambiguity and autonomy whilst solving some of our biggest customer challenges.

The Role and Ways of Working
Reporting into the Head of Design, you will join our team of Product Designers, and work directly with the PM and tech team to shape ways to help our customers to curate, customise, and confidently purchase thoughtful gifts.

As an individual contributor, within the eComm team, you will initially lead the delivery of Acquisition and Discovery squad projects, with ownership of the end-to-end product design process. You will then transition from the Acquisition and Discovery squad and into the Apps squad

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with PMs, Researchers and Analysts to ensure designs are evidence informed and centred around our customers needs
  • Design simple, usable flows and experiences that bring joy to our customers
  • Run user research sessions to drive discovery, test designs and validate hypotheses to develop a deep empathy for our customers
  • Collaborate with the product and design, research, brand and business stakeholders to gain insights and input into your work
  • Constantly look for ways to improve our digital experience — from optimising squad metrics, identifying the right opportunities, to driving improvements in usability, copy, accessibility, and brand expression

You:

  • Previous experience: Experience designing responsively for the web and app, in a customer-facing growth brand, ideally in direct to consumer, eCommerce and subscription-based products
  • User-centred design: A portfolio that demonstrates examples of the end to end product delivery process you’ve followed — from discovery and problem framing through to delivery and outcomes
  • Attention to detail: Combining clearly defined content, information architecture, and creative vision to create delightful, innovative user experiences that solve customer and business problems
  • Problem solving: You are curious and pragmatic — combining qualitative and quantitative evidence, best practice and benchmarking to inform your design process. Equally motivated by small-tweaks and optimisations, and solving big picture problems.
  • Customer-empathy: You have strong customer empathy and are able to combine qualitative and quantitative evidence to deepen your understanding of customers and design to meet their needs
  • User research: Experience facilitating user research sessions, either independently or alongside product managers and user researchers
  • Communication: A confident communicator, able to explain your design decisions supported by rationale based on both industry best practices and gathered insights
  • Collaborative: A team player, comfortable facilitating collaborative environments to build cohesion and trust within the team
  • Agile practice: Experience working with product & tech teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • It would be nice if you also have...
  • Visual language: Comfortable creating within brand/design guidelines — and know when to bend, break and extend them
  • Inclusivity: Previous experience designing products that meet accessibility standards and compliance guidelines such as WCA
  • Design Systems: Comfortable with following conventions set by a design system, extending and contributing to pattern libraries
  • Tooling: Comfortable with Figma, with experience using components and styles from shared Libraries
