PRINCIPAL PRODUCT DESIGNER, CORE BANKING

At Current, we’re on a mission to enable our members to create better financial outcomes for themselves. Headquartered in NYC, we’re a leading U.S. fintech and one of the fastest growing companies with nearly 4 million members. No matter your title, we’re a team that collaborates on building great products and making an impact together

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Current is looking for a Principal Product Designer to lead one of our business units on the Core Banking Product team. You’ll break new ground, develop the short and long-term design vision, and help hire and set priorities for the designers on your team.

As a design leader, you’ll drive the end-to-end product design development cycle: from early research and product strategy, to design solutioning, stakeholder reviews, and developer hand-off. You should have a strong understanding of mobile design patterns on both iOS and Android, strong visual and user experience sensibilities, and care deeply about the end-to-end customer experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and develop the team’s Product Design Vision, Customer Empathy, and Domain Expertise
    • Identify and advocate for product opportunities, new features, and ux optimizations that increases both business-impact and customer satisfaction
    • Champion customer-empathy by leading user research and shortening customer feedback loops to answer fundamental product questions and continuously improve our product experience
    • Develop UX and competitive benchmarks and best-practice guides for relevant domains (Personal Banking, Digital-banking, Fintech and payment innovations, etc.)
    • Lead explorations of the 11-star experience (next generation, best-in-class concepts)
  • Lead and execute tactical and strategic Product Design Initiatives
    • Lead and manage the end-to-end design of complex features requiring multiple designers (concepting, wireframing, usability prototypes, high-fidelity visual designs)
    • Set a world-class standard of quality by creating design toolkits, design specs and documentation, design principles, and guides on effective design patterns/ industry best-practices
    • Lead, develop, and maintain our design systems and libraries
  • Drive results by creating process, structure, and thought-partnership across the organization
    • Mentor, guide & unblock designers, team members, and cross-functional partners
    • Develop and codify tools and processes that avoid problems and increase productivity
    • Work closely with product and engineering to formulate hypotheses, validate ideas, and iterate frequently (always be shipping!)
    • Facilitate debate and build consensus between strong points of views from multiple stakeholders
    • Support quarterly and yearly design planning, define and map high-level design goals to company OKRs and KPIs, and support resource planning
    • Champion, grow, and evolve the Design, Product, and org-wide culture of collaborative and innovative product thinking

ABOUT YOU:

  • A seasoned Product Design expert who has led as a hands-on contributor, mentor and thought-leader on Design teams and across Product orgs.
  • You have designed, built, and launched many consumer-centric iOS and Android mobile and web products that millions of people love to use
  • You pride yourself on producing great visual designs and are able to simplify complex problems into great user experiences
  • You love to learn and you are not shy about asking questions, challenging the status quo, and driving organizational change
  • You take pride in the outstanding quality of your designs but you can also aggressively prioritize, ship quickly, iterate and, most importantly, hear other people’s feedback
  • You are comfortable sketching on whiteboards, producing tons of wireframes, and producing high-fidelity prototypes and UI specs
  • You love working collaboratively on teams and thrive under pressure

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 8+ years of experience designing and shipping products across iOS, Android, and web interfaces
  • 2+ years managing designers and their workflows
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating pixel-perfect eye candy, interactive prototypes, and ability to solve complex problems with the latest industry tools, patterns, and UX strategies
  • Expert at leading, developing, and maintaining design libraries and patterns with User Interface Engineers and a growing Product Design team.
  • Strong communicator and collaborator who can articulate qualitative and quantitative reasoning behind design decisions. Expert at working closely with in-house teams – engineers, including communication, understanding platform limitations, and asset production

BONUS:

  • Experience designing in personal finance/ banking, service-design, and/or consumer products with longer life cycles (education, health, etc.)
