About the team

Shopify’s Learning Acceleration team, within our broader Talent Development team, provides core learning and development offerings for Shopifolk around the world. From Startup (our onboarding program for new employees) to Leading at Shopify (our leadership development program for managers), our team builds and delivers learning at every level. In addition to crafting programs, the Learning Acceleration team provides responsive services to ensure teams and leaders across the business can access facilitation and design expertise to enhance their team gatherings and internal learning initiatives. In order to achieve our goal of becoming a 100 year company, we need to ensure that all Shopifolk are prepared to fuel our future growth through their ongoing impact, guided by the Learning Acceleration team. About you

We are looking for a result-driven leader to lead a multi-disciplinary team of Learning Experience Designers and Learning Producers. 

In this role you will model and maintain baseline craft practices and serve as a steward of the craft. As the craft leader, you will be expected to establish these practices and seek alignment through partnership with technical leads and regional learning leads in EMEA & APAC. In addition to guiding the collective standards of excellence in the craft, you will lead a North American team of Learning Designers and Learning Producers. You will be responsible for the successful execution of learning projects and strategic team goals across programs and teams in collaboration with program managers. 

As the Learning Experience Design Lead, you will inspire and develop your team through 1-on-1 coaching, support, and performance management. You will be responsible for creating an environment that promotes positive communication, encourages collaboration, and demonstrates humility and flexibility to maximize the team’s potential.

In this role you will:

  • Oversee and elevate the global application of all components of the Learning Design and Development lifecycle

  • Manage a high impact team dedicated to a future-focused vision of sustainable internal learning for all Shopifolk

  • Lead projects that exemplify what great looks like for the craft, in alignment with regional and technical leads 

  • Ensure high quality project deliverables and creative assets

  • Develop a deep understanding of each team member's strengths, ensuring that individuals are working on the most high leverage projects in order of prioritization 

  • Contribute to the Learning Acceleration team’s overall strategy through project prioritization and providing input on current and future needs

  • Act as a thought partner to our Program Management team as well as senior, regional, and technical leads

  • Partner with Talentteams and subject matter experts across Shopify to translate knowledge gaps into new learning content and experiences

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years managing multidisciplinary teams, hiring and onboarding new team members, setting team goals, providing ongoing feedback, and nurturing a high trust team culture

  • A deep familiarity with the creative process and ability to analyze and critique creative direction 

  • Experience building high trust relationships within and across teams in a remote environment

  • The ability to influence and build credibility through establishing craft standards and sustainable learning solutions across multiple functions

  • Strong stakeholder engagement: you present your ideas and make decisions that influence your team and gain buy-in from senior leadership 

  • Agile leadership: you know how and when to pivot your team to deliver the highest impact in a fast-paced and complex environment

  • A genuine knack for keeping up with new trends, approaches, and best practices, as well as how to go about implementing them effectively

  • The ability to thrive in an environment where experimentation is encouraged: you are confident in creating, executing, and championing innovative ideas

    Bonus experience:

  • A learner-obsessed attitude: you seek to deeply understand learners and their problems in order to build the best solutions for them

  • Experience working in a helix or matrix style organization where decision making is distributed

  • Experience as a Creative Director of Art, Photography or Cinematography
