About Tomo
Tomo believes the joy and promise of a new home should never be overshadowed by the hassle of buying one. We’re on a mission to reinvent home buying—beginning with a simpler, faster, and less expensive mortgage experience. By empowering homebuyers with technology and transparency, we’re fundamentally changing the way people buy homes.
The elevator Pitch...
As Tomo builds new products, services, and experiences for homebuyers, we’re hiring a Senior UX Researcher to help us better understand customer motivations, emotions, and behaviors; test new concepts and prototypes; and, ultimately, develop deeper, more regular understanding of the customers we serve. We’re seeking a hands-on, creative, strategic colleague to help us expand our research capabilities. The person in this role will be part of our design team and work closely with the product, data, and engineering teams. This role reports temporarily to our COO and Co-Founder and ultimately to our Head of Design.
The things you'll be doing...
- Understanding the key strategic questions our business has about homebuyers and identifying the best tools to use in answering them.
- Crafting compelling narratives about our customer needs, attitudes, aspirations, expectations, and obstacles
- Employing a variety of research methods, such as ethnographic studies, competitive research, user journeys, card sorting, usability studies, quantitative and qualitative surveys, and message testing.
- Empowering stakeholders to conduct their own research efforts as appropriate and acting as an expert consultant as they do
- Participating into rapid prototyping efforts to find ways to rapidly gain feedback and accelerate progress on our path to product/market fit
- Synthesizing and sharing the results of research with stakeholders across the company to drive a shared understanding of our customers
- Also researching the needs of other important “customers” like agents and Tomo sales and operations teammates
The things you're a GOAT at...
- Staying in tune with the pulse of the business and the problems we are trying to solve as a company
- Finding the best-fit research method for the question we are trying to answer
- Balancing a long-term research program with short-term research needs
- Staying organized to keep multiple research efforts moving forward at once
- Having a nose for the key insights that lurk below the surface of every research effort - and the key places we can apply them!
- Communicating effectively across all channels, from Slack messages to longer reports, from 1:1 user interviews to all-hands presentations
- Being comfortable in Agile development environment that releases software multiple times a day
- Staying flexible as business needs evolve and we learn more - this is a start-up
You may also have the extras...
- 5+ years working in UX research field and/or equivalent experience
- Experience working in B2C, at tech companies, and/or in start-ups
- Bachelor’s degree or even advanced degree in a relevant field
There's no such thing as a perfect candidate, and we don’t expect you to meet 100% of the above criteria. Ultimately, we're looking for a creative optimist with grit and determination, who is excited to face the challenges of a growing startup that’s shaking up an industry. We'd love to talk to you about how and why you can see yourself growing into this role, and we are especially open to candidates with non-traditional backgrounds and experience. Let’s connect!
