About the Role

The Lead UI Designer will work on all phases of design: from working with UX Designers, concepting and creating high fidelity visual designs including responsive layouts for both App and Web. You have a body of work spanning from App to Web design solutions, you can talk about your end-to-end approach to design, and are both confident in your knowledge and abilities, while remaining approachable and flexible when receiving feedback from the team and your manager.

Responsibilities:

  • As a digital designer, you’re proud of identifying opportunities to improve the final user interface, by devising elegant solutions that deliver measurable results.
  • Able to take a user-centred design approach to designing solutions that meet the needs of the customer.
  • You are concerned about the accessibility of the final product. Colour contrasts, semantic mark-up, keyboard navigation, screen-readers, performance.
  • Facilitate stakeholders’ product visions by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and designing screens of new user interfaces.
  • Make strategic design decisions related to both existing and new functionalities, in order to ensure both intuitive and delightful experiences.
  • Experience in end-to-end product design, including:
    • Lean UX and Agile processes;
    • Facilitating requirements gathering, stakeholder interviews, workshops (affinity mapping,
      user journeys, lean UX workshops, collaborative design, etc.);
    • Hi-visual fidelity, adaptive Axure prototypes (UI design following our digital styleguides);
    • Design reviews;
    • In-house/third party user testing, reviewing results, prioritising corrective actions;
    • Stakeholder walk-throughs and presentations;
    • Liaising with internal teams (Brand, Marketing, Development, etc.) and external vendors;
    • Technical post-implementation reviews.
  • Documenting the UI design deliverables to aid review and development activities.
  • Ultimately deliver digital products which make a difference for our members, by listening to
  • them and by relentlessly representing them and their interests.

About You

The essentials:

  •  +5 years of professional UI design experience. Complete digital environments, and complex solutions for e-commerce/online purchase.
  • Empathy for the final user: emotional states, needs, wants, frustrations. You are interested in understanding why people do what they do (behavioural psychology).
  • Mobile-first design principles; adaptive/responsive grid systems.
  • Knowledge of modern UI design patterns (aware of, and against the usage of dark-patterns).
  • Although not required to code, an understanding of modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) is required.
  • A solid grasp of user-centred design, testing methodologies, usability and accessibility (colour contrasts, legibility, scannability, hierarchy, post-implementation reviews, etc.).
  • Ability to quickly iterate your designs and solutions.
  • An appreciation for clear typography, meaningful imagery, and sound layouts.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions.
  • Be excited about collaborating and communicating closely with teams and other stakeholders to regularly deliver design solutions for approval.
  • Be willing to help teammates, share knowledge, and learn from one other.
  • Be open to soliciting–but also receiving–feedback and constructive criticism. You don’t take feedback personally, but as an opportunity to learn and to design better products.
  • Articulate and skilled communicator who likes facilitating workshops and presenting.
  • You’re outgoing and approachable. You love interacting with others.
  • A portfolio of the recent work you’re proud of. We are looking for your design process, clear interaction design, and responsive layouts.
  • Attention to detail.

Not a must, but a plus:

  • Knowledge of the health insurance industry desirable but not required.
  • An interest in product design, service design, design-thinking.
  • Understanding of native apps design guidelines (components, views, transitions, etc.).
  • Familiar with the Agile development process.
  • Appreciation for good design. Love for research studies. Desire to improve the world in tiny and big ways.
