The Lead Product Manager role extends the Senior Product Manager role expectations, and is the first career step in our senior Individual Contributor product management career path.
Lead Product Managers work in squads like other IC PMs, but possess a unique level of expertise, and often own specific topics within the product that extend across Domain boundaries. For Payroll, Lead Product Managers will lead work of a highly complex nature like Payroll Corrections and Payroll Configurations, and will be accountable for the intersections that naturally arise in other Domains such as Core HR.
Lead Product Managers are expected to coach and mentor other Product Managers, as well as assist with their career development. This includes being an official mentor with regular check-ins on larger initiatives with a focus on elevating the Product Manager's Career Development Framework skills development. Under certain circumstances there may also be the requirement for limited direct people management.
Lead Product Managers are expected to drive outsized business results via their direct contributions. This can include shaping product prioritisation, representing Product in GTM motions, driving efficiency with CX, unblocking future facing strategy via a heavy focus on iteration or the generation and utilisation of data to inform where we direct our investment. Lead PMs will ensure the successful execution of the initiatives they lead, either by identifying and establishing the operational modes necessary for collaboration, and/or by marshaling the Program resources required for success.
Responsibilities:
Develop a deep understanding of the market as well as our customers, their pains and jobs-to-be-done.
Systematically analyze user feedback and usage datagathered qualitatively through Customer interaction and from quantitative sources
Create and align teams around strategic goals, relevant KPIs and a respective product roadmap often across Domain boundaries
Plan, enable, and execute against a product roadmap based on an objectively prioritized backlog that spans multiple teams
Lead specific complex topics within the product that extend across Domain boundaries
Decompose complex problems and write clear specifications
Manage product delivery in an agile setting and guide your team in all sprint activities
drive outsized business results via their direct contributions
Mentor and coach Senior Product Managers as a Senior member of the Domain
Act as a subject matter expert and point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with fellow senior IC stakeholders such as Staff and Principal Engineers & UX
Evangelize their product area to actively increase wider organizational awareness and knowledge
At least 8 years experience in SaaS or a relevant technical area of Product Management, preferably in a regulated environment
Previous experience building product platforms, managing high levels of complexity and dependencies
Preferably computer science background, and deep technical understanding
Relevant experience in working with cross-functional teams in an agile setting applying Scrum
Experience mentoring other Senior Product Managers, and optionally experience managing a small team of Product Managers working on complex topics
Strong sense of ownership, ability to work independently in a result-oriented way
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in English. (German or Spanish is a plus)
