The Neighborhood Value pillar focuses on providing an active and valued platform for neighbors who want to invest in their communities. We focus on building the core products that enable neighbors to form connection and community.  In addition, this team invests in building public and private communication channels on Nextdoor through features like feed, sharing, for sale and free, messaging, groups, and more. 

The Neighborhood Engagement team is core to the purpose of Nextdoor; to cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on. To cultivate a kinder world, the team builds the core products that allow neighbors to communicate publicly with each other in the feed and privately in messaging. In addition, this team is responsible for our core for sale and free marketplace, enabling neighbors to form interest based groups, and exploring new discovery mechanisms like maps.  

The Impact You’ll Make

As the Head of Product of the Neighborhood Engagement team you will partner closely with the executive team, communications, marketing, policy team, designers, researchers, data scientists, engineers, and fellow product managers to execute the product vision that enables neighbors to communicate with each other to accomplish their goals. You will be a thought leader in the company and across the industry to define what neighborhood engagement means and how Nextdoor leads in building an active valued communities. You will work closely with the marketing team to define positioning and go-to-market strategy around these use cases and the partnerships team to build strategic partnerships with external resources.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Working closely with cross-functional partners (community program, policy, product management, data science, engineering, insights, design, and partnerships)
  • Being the ‘go-to’ leader for insights around Neighborhood Engagement 
  • Developing a long-term vision for enabling conversations within user-generated communities for Nextdoor
  • Creating the product strategy, roadmap, and milestones for existing and future use cases
  • Aligning the organization around the vision and strategy
  • Working with industry leaders to understand the state of the art in community conversations, welcoming experiences, and incorporating those learnings into product evolutions
  • Leading the team that implements these products, from initial MVP to continuous iteration and testing
  • Managing a team of product managers that are responsible for Neighborhood Engagement

What You’ll Bring To The Team

  • 15+ years of work experience in product development
  • 8+ years in product management/strategy
  • Strong track record of shipping world-class consumer products with lots of user generated content
  • Familiarity with leveraging research and insights to inform product strategy
  • Strong analytical thinking in order to interpret data, thoroughly analyze results, and drive to critical outcomes and success
  • Excitement about partnering with Design as a strategic partner and building a collaborative relationship with design team members; around exploring multiple solution spaces
  • Experience developing new product surfaces and building the organizational alignment around the new opportunity
  • Experience with multiple methods of testing and validation, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Excellent written and communication skills, especially to senior executives
  • Natural ability to make things happen around you. You will be managing project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way
