As the Head of the Core Design team, you will create a center of excellence across multiple areas of Design. You will lead experience design managers, product designers, and content designers - and specialists in other Design disciplines, You’ll report directly to the Head of Atlassian Design, and be a member of the Design Leadership group. You will partner on an ongoing basis with the Design Leadership and business peers to establish the team's strategy.
The Main Design Team covers four areas - Accessibility, Design Operations, the Atlassian Design System, as well a new Projects and Prototyping area. You will partner with peers in the Design Leadership group to define what world-class looks-like for these teams and how they can work together to be greater than the sum of their parts. Across all four teams, you will be focused on scale, efficiency and standards. Leading this space means you get to improve for capability of Design that underpins the experience for over 250,000 customers in 190 countries.
What you'll do:
- Improve the capability of Design as a whole by allowing all teams to use the four areas
- Attract, retain, develop, and manage Design leaders
- Set expectations for scale, efficiency and standards
- Inspire excellence in craft and stay up to date with industry best-practice
- Establish trust and build confidence with partners and executive leadership in and outside Design
- Help the Design teams maintain a creative and supportive environment
Your background:
- More than five years experience in senior Design Leadership roles
- Experience in planning and driving direction autonomously - both as a hands-on designer, and as a manager
- Maintain an area of core strength in one or more Design disciplines where you can lead through your expertise
- Track-record in building scaled systems and methods for Design
- Demonstrated capability to understand the technical underpinnings of software products
- Positive collaboration history with other departments, like Engineering, Product Management and Research
- Examples of a high degree of influence with all kinds of internal partners, including senior leadership
At Atlassian, we tie our base pay ranges to role and level. In the United States, that means your base pay ranges will fall into one of three geographic pay zones depending on your location. Our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $246,700 - $378,400
Zone B: $222,000 - $340,600
Zone C: $204,800 - $314,100
Within each range, base pay is ultimately determined based on your skills, expertise, and experience. This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and/or equity.
