About our team:

Our rapidly growing team aims to launch products with the highest level of teamwork and execution. We’re looking for an experienced leader to elevate our in-product content strategy and be a thought leader in employing the craft of UX writing to improve our customer experience and achieve Turo’s mission of putting the world's 1.5+ billion cars to better use.

About the role:

As our first Director of UX Writing, you will be responsible for establishing our UX Writing function and hiring and managing a team within the first six months. You will report to the Senior Vice President of Design and contribute as an equal member of the Product Design Leadership team, helping to build and maintain the culture and processes that will lead to the best possible outcomes for our community of hosts and guests. As a passionate leader and practitioner, you will bring your craft expertise to establish standards and provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to help each team member flourish and increase their impact.

What you'll do:

  • Establish our UX Writing function and hire and manage the UX Writing team
  • Develop a deep understanding of business needs and customer opportunities, and set the vision to have a positive impact on both
  • Lead your team as both a manager and a craftsperson, occasionally taking on a contributing role while you build your team and setting the bar for UX writing and content design on high-impact projects
  • Partner with product, legal, marketing, and support to ensure your team’s work is implemented cohesively so customers get the best possible experience
  • Contribute as an equal member of the Product Design Leadership team, helping to build and maintain our Design culture and process
  • Help scale the influence of the team by documenting strategic content decisions and enshrining guidelines for others to follow

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years management and leadership experience
  • 8+ years practicing content strategy and/or writing in the UX field
  • A portfolio of your work as a team leader. This should include examples of content-led product initiatives and how they made an impact
  • A robust background in UX and writing craft excellence
  • A demonstrable track record of successfully using UX writing to elevate consumer digital products and experiences
  • Aptitude and experience approaching UX writing challenges with a service design mindset so that the impact of your team’s work goes beyond screens
  • Experience growing and managing a team of UX writers of varying levels
  • Good judgment and self-direction
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to inspire different audiences across the organization
  • Ability to see patterns in the day-to-day work and connect them to our big-picture product strategies and user experience visions

Why you'll love being a part of our team

  • We're pioneering, challenging the status quo, and always striving to try new things without fear of failure
  • We're efficient, letting data drive our decisions and prioritizing our work based on impact
  • We're supportive, always striving to connect, collaborate, and lift each other up
  • We're down-to-earth, leading confidently without arrogance, and maintaining humility in our work, our culture, and our product
  • We are a high-growth company with strong financial performance and plentiful opportunities for career growth
  • We are committed to personal growth and provide every team member an annual budget of $2,000 USD to invest in professional development
  • We want you to thrive both in and out of the office; we trust that you will use good judgment and take the time off that you need to bring your best self to work
  • We offer a competitive salary, equity, benefits, and perks for all full-time employees
