Job Description

Shopify is seeking a Director of Marketing Project Management/Operations that will serve as the driver and key enabler for the Product Marketing team delivering planning, execution and support for core product marketing and operational functions. You'll design and delegate processes and practices that will allow us to scale to the next level of operational excellence. Ready to own strategy, you will be managing the roadmap, OKR planning, tackling high-priority projects, managing operations of Shopify Editions, and seamlessly delivering all campaign execution to enable the marketing team to operate efficiently and scale productively. 

The successful candidate is a creative, collaborative leader who brings energy and insight to deliver high-impact marketing communications that support the product and deliver measurable results to the business. Responsibilities will include building a team to drive PMM 101 – GTM and inbound, managing the launch calendar, leading Town Halls, and sharing best practices. Must be a thought leader to build the PMM craft and communicate expectations across the company.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Build a world-class project management/operations team that will set the standard for PMM across the company
  • Implement efficient product marketing processes, campaign tracking, lead management, segmentation strategies and alignment with sales initiatives
  • Transform the marketing planning process for global campaigns across all channels, bringing together key stakeholders to align on strategy including content and campaign prioritization
  • Lead the practice of PMM across the company, building dashboards, putting reviews in place, setting OKRs
  • Own project management of Shopify Editions, our twice-yearly digital experience that demonstrates the breadth and depth of the Shopify product
  • Manage the marketing budget and ensure alignment with Finance, tracking budget actuals and forecast performance
  • Be a cross-functional liaison between stakeholders in different departments and different offices to ensure unified operational focus
  • Establish a marketing campaign execution processes, identify automation opportunities to improve consistency and efficiency
  • Align the marketing technology infrastructure by owning project management and implementation, governance and roadmap development
  • Implement processes that are designed, documented, and executed in a way that minimizes bad or incomplete data
  • Lead ongoing training and enablement for marketing on processes and tech stack.
  • Work closely with legal to ensure campaign compliance and governance to regional regulations (GDPR, CCPA ect.)
  • Manage, build and lead a strong team through coaching and developing existing members and closing talent gaps where needed through acquisition of new team members
  • Design, implement and administer cross-functional marketing processes, such as campaign planning, annual planning, program performance reporting and budgeting
  • Set up the framework for a consistent product narrative across the org, map out the ways the messaging is tied together
  • Develop and institute communications protocols, best practices, and processes that will drive greater efficiencies in how we work and operate as a marketing team
  • Ability to be a hands-on leader who will roll up your sleeves and work with the team

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in a senior leadership role with direct management experience balancing tactical execution and strategic marketing campaigns
  • 10+ years people management experience leading direct teams of 2-5
  • 10+ years of experience working in marketing, communications, commercial operations, or related field as outlined in the essential duties with direct experience working in-house and managing an internal team
  • Ability to operate independently to build out new programs and initiatives
  • Experience leading and growing a team of high-performing professionals
  • Ability to frame problems and develop ambitious solutions, while balancing the demands of executing at speed and scale
  • Ability to create strong partnerships and effective collaboration across internal and external teams
  • Project management experience with proven ability to execute large cross functional projects according to scope, budget and timeline
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of B2B marketing and demonstrated ability to partner with product and sales teams to develop growth marketing campaigns
  • Experience growing and scaling a top-notch team and function to meet the needs of stakeholders with internal resources and contractors
  • Knowledge of Digital Asset Management, Calendars, and Project Management platforms (i.e. Asana)
  • Outstanding analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
