Wayflyer’s mission is to revolutionise the eCommerce space by supercharging online businesses and their founders across the world. We provide MCAs (Merchant Cash Advances) to eCommerce businesses to allow them to pay for inventory and marketing for a low-cost flat fee, which they repay to us through revenue-based financing. We also use data to provide founders with insights which empower them to make decisions that will help them acquire new customers, scale and unlock their store's full potential.
We’ve helped companies like
Wild,
Dock & Bay and
Branch take their businesses to the next level. Check out this
video from Davie Fogherty, another one of our brilliant customers, giving a great explanation of what we do and how we helped
The Oodie go from strength to strength.
Why Wayflyer?
• Since launching in April 2020, we’ve deployed over $550m in funding across 8 countries to 1000+ eCommerce founders. In 2021 alone, the amount of funding we deployed to customers grew by 900%.
• We
announced our Series B in February 2022 raising $150m in funding at $
1.6bn valuation; backed by world-leading VCs including Left Lane Capital and DST Global. This valuation helped us reach unicorn status making us one of only 6 in Ireland. In May 2022, we secured a $300m credit facility from J.P. Morgan. And in August, we locked in a $253million debt financing facility from Credit Suisse.
• 'The early team you build is the company you build'. We’re still in our early days so you'll play an integral part in defining the culture at Wayflyer.
• Careers at Wayflyer are truly cross functional. Regardless of your role at Wayflyer, you'll work with a variety of different disciplines and teams from around the world on a multitude of challenging projects and game-changing products to revolutionise the eCommerce landscape.
Research & Design at Wayflyer
At Wayflyer we know our customers expect remarkable customer experience and beautifully designed products and services, so we’re looking for senior design leaders to scale and build a world-class team. As part of the founding Research & Design senior leadership team you’ll define what your discipline does at Wayflyer and hire the team to do it. This is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and to build the team you’ve always wanted to lead to define and shape how we work right from the beginning, and to help take Wayflyer to the next level. You’ll raise skills, set standards, and identify good practice to enable our teams to be fast and good. You’ll report into our VP of Research & Design who reports directly to the CEO, so you and your team will have the ability to make a meaningful impact with work that is transforming eCommerce. Just as importantly, having design leadership right at the top of the business means you’ll never have to justify to the business the importance and value of great design because the business already gets it. You’ll spend your time doing research and design, not justifying why it needs to be done. We’re building a team who care very deeply about building remarkable products, and also care about people and are invested in their growth and success, whether they’re part of Wayflyer, or the customers we work with. You’ll be able to be your best self at work, working with incredible people and doing great things.
What will you do?
We’re looking for a Director of Product Design to build and run our Product Design job family. Your team will be responsible for shaping Wayflyer’s user experience of our digital products, and ensure our products and services are valued by the founders we work with, easy to use, and of the highest level of quality. You and the team you build will work in multidisciplinary teams alongside content design, brand design, research, product management, engineering, marketing and other disciplines, ensuring that our teams build great products that address real needs.
- Partner and align with stakeholders across Wayflyer to understand business strategy, objectives and goals so the Product Design team can execute effectively and efficiently against these
- Build, coach and manage a team of product designers, fostering a strong culture of collaboration, care and curiosity
- Recruit and train for subject matter expertise within the team, and also cross-train across the org to raise the overall level of quality of work and understanding
- Invest in the team’s professional development through skills planning, formal and informal coaching, and performance feedback
- Coach and enable your team to accelerate their careers on paths best suited to them in a way that works for the business, whether that’s on a managerial or technical track
- Lead the team by example - teaching by doing, designing when required, balancing this with the understanding of where your priorities sit across multiple initiatives
- Design remarkable products, features and interactions across all prospect- and customer-facing touchpoints seeking to set new standards for B2B products, centred around the user and their needs
- Set and drive quality standards across user touchpoints across Wayflyer
- Collaborate with leadership in product management, engineering and others to define, implement and maintain a unified product strategy for Wayflyer
- Use experimentation, measurement and performance analysis of Wayflyer’s digital products and features to ensure we learn, focus and prioritise effort on the right things
- Support and advise teams developing beta or early-stage products with product design strategy
What will your first 90 days look like?
- Work with the existing product design group to identify demand, evaluate and support work-in-progress around the business, and create a team structure and ‘build, borrow, buy’ people plan to support those needs
- Run an initial review of the customer experience in partnership with Content and Brand Design leadership, prioritising fixes and improvements appropriately
- Establish foundational product standards with the team – design patterns, tone of interaction, design principles – to set initial quality bars
- Partner with Brand and Content Design leadership to define the design language for our product experience
- Hire your team to build out initial North Star vision concepts
- Work with R&D leadership and TA to create candidate packs that attract a diversity of applicants in an inclusive way
What skills and experience are we hoping you have?
- You are a recognised authority in your field with a proven track-record of building, scaling and running high-performing teams as part of a wider Product function
- Able to show functional leadership, willing to lead by doing, and unafraid to get hands-on when needed
- You have excellent stakeholder management skills. And willing to lead conversations, constructively challenge, seek feedback and input at all levels in the organisation
- You have worked with a variety of different organisations, from startups through to large multinationals within a variety of sectors (whilst B2B experience is helpful, this role is best-suited to someone with strong B2C experience) and are able to bring a variety of working practices and apply these to appropriately and thoughtfully
- Proven experience in shaping and developing high performing teams and psychologically-safe working environments
- You have worked with Brand, Marketing and Content teams and understand how to provide timely, effective support to these teams and the need for close working relationships that centre around the customer and their experience of a brand
- You have practical experience of developing and working with design systems, and the role that interaction design and information architecture play
- You will be able to confidently assess the appropriate skillsets and experiences that are required when hiring for your team
If you have some but not all of these skills and experiences, don’t let that stop you from applying. Being insatiably curious is one of our values so as long as you’re willing to throw yourself in and learn, we’ll support you to develop new skills and tackle new experiences.
