Location: While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever. To create the best experience for our new hire (you?!) this role does require that you are based within +3 / -3 UTC 

?‍? The Role 

The DesignOps team at Oyster HR is responsible for a mix of managing the design team’s business operations, ensuring design excellence, and helping shape and drive the design team’s culture, craft, and priorities. This area is new at Oyster HR, so this person will the first hire for the Design Ops team. They will help to build the foundations and evangelize the DesignOps function.

As the Design Operations Manager at Oyster HR, you will partner with cross-functional members in our Product and Engineering departments, as well as leads across the company. Your goal will be to enable the design team so they can focus on designing and shipping great products while ensuring design has a high-quality bar. The successful candidate must possess a strong understanding of design and the different crafts that are part of the design family.

What you'll do…

  • Collaborate with and support the Design team in delivering high-quality designs; act as a bridge between the Design, Engineering, Product Management teams, connecting all groups and making sure inter-dependencies are well understood and planned for effectively
  • Point out connections and potential conflicts between different products, features and platforms and reconciles these
  • Identify team’s needs with regards to process, tools, documentation, asset management, etc.
  • Provide stakeholders with visibility and updates on current projects, resource utilization, team performance, and product health across teams
  • Implement and change to drive efficiency within the Design team
  • Lead or collaborate with design leadership in key project decision-making, including requirements gathering, scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination of teams and approval processes
  • Bring all the critical pieces together – strategy, business goals, design, execution, technology, and customer needs
  • Establish project timelines and tasks and manage large projects through all phases of implementation
  • Define and create a process to receive design requests and prioritize them
  • Own the product lifecycle from a design perspective by being involved from discovery to delivery.
  • Interface with internal business partners throughout various departments

What we're looking for

  • Experience working in design operations, design agencies, or design program management
  • Deep experience working with creative/design teams, understanding how to integrate processes with creative minds
  • Experience managing the operations for a mid to large size design team
  • Basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research best practices
  • Experience creating and maintaining a design documentation
  • Thorough understanding of the creative development processes
  • Ability to understand complex programs, scope and prioritize projects, define schedules, and work independently

You'll also need...

  • You are fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • A reliable home internet connection (or be able to get one).

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with or managing design systems
  • Experience with the following software or similars: Figma, Asana, Linear and Notion
