About the Team you'll be joining

The SEO Team sits right at the intersection of product and marketing with a focus on high-impact landing pages across our platform. Our goal is pretty simple; Empower every user in the world to discover Canva, and inspire them to create their next design. We’re a cross-disciplinary group of product managers, researchers, designers, engineers and content specialists.

About the Digital Design specialty

Digital designers have the chance to collaborate and work between Brand and Product. Working at the top of the funnel you will be designing pages viewed by millions. This is an incredible opportunity to help develop our brand awareness and have a direct impact on our MAUs and revenue goals. Being the first touch-point at the start of the user journey, you will be responsible for delivering landing pages that meet our user’s needs and drive adoption. Working in a cross functional team, you will be responsible to bring designs to life from start to finish. That may involve a wide range of tasks such as brainstorming, writing creative briefs or design documents, wireframes, visual designs, prototype, interaction, and more.

About the role
In this role, you'll collaborate with our founders, Product, Engineer and Group Leads, with the Researchers, Product and Content Designers, to ensure Canva's vision of empowering everyone to design. You'll guide the processes for how the team works—helping the team set roadmaps and strategies for the future. 

Our team is starting off small, with 2 designers & a creative producer. Your role will be to lead, grow & mould the design team to meet Canva’s growing needs, whilst simultaneously ensuring that all design output meets the highest of quality standards across all of our landing pages & touch points. This is an amazing opportunity to lead and grow a talented Design team in an environment that rewards initiative, creativity, and independence. 




What you’ll do

  • You'll be on the tools and leading a team;
  • You'll guide the processes for how the team works—helping the team set roadmaps and strategies for the future. You'll also need to ensure the designers in the SEO team are supported and doing the best work.

  • Lead a talented, growing team of designers that consistently deliver incredible & impactful landing pages & assets
  • Work with the Creative Producer to set achievable and inspiring goals that enable Canva as a product to grow and help uphold a high quality standard and design vision for design across Canva
  • Clearly communicate future design directions with key stakeholders including Group Leads, Design Leaders and Founders.
  • Be a champion for the highest quality design standards across the team & continuously work to expand the team's design capabilities & skills.
  • Provide design critique to help the team grow in a positive environment.
  • Help other Designers to grow and develop their abilities through thoughtful and effective coaching
  • Constantly evaluate and improve the quality of processes and tools used by the team, focusing on the quality of the outcome
  • Ensure that the voice of the customer/users is on the table during design decisions.
  • Be the main point of feedback for the designers within the team.
  • Ensure that the Canva Brand is always considered & championed on every touch point.
  • Help the team to uncover user needs through research and user empathy. Use and encourage the team to use data and user feedback to inform decisions.
  • Help the team to resolve conflicting priorities and recognise where compromise is needed to adapt directions accordingly
  • Help to provide clarity to your design team through clear articulation of vision and strategy, especially while going through periods of ambiguity or roadblocks
  • Support team members in all aspects of their work, making sure the team is recognised for their work across Canva and they have a chance to present and show off their own work.
  • Working with our people support teams to ensure team happiness and psychological safety for the team

Experience you’ll have

  • You're a Design Lead who is naturally curious and passionate about design with a keen awareness of the evolving landscape of available tools, technologies, resources and trends. You are a master of your craft and love to bring projects to life. You are comfortable working in a high pace and iterative environment inside a cross functional team and can navigate from chaos to clarity. Highly collaborative, you are able to bring people with you on the design journey, proposing creative solutions informed by data and research while addressing business goals and strategies.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates experience in designing landing pages, a strong understanding in user behaviour and how to drive conversion. 
  • You work iteratively and have experience with conversion optimization, A/B testing, User testing and using data to inform design decisions.
  • You are comfortable with the various acquisition channels (SEO, SEM, Social etc..) and are able to provide holistic, consistent and performant solutions. 
  • Have experience supporting teams in turning data into insights, tracking engagement on a group level, reporting on team's effectiveness & leveraging data for team growth/optimisation
  • Direct experience with collaborating and communicating with senior stakeholders
  • A track-record of tackling complex problems and delivering simple and elegant solutions. You hold a high-bar for designing clean, elegant, and usable designs.
  • Extensive experience working with Engineers on feasibility, detailed design and finding solutions to complex problems.
  • A strong sense of design ethics - understanding that the design decisions we make at Canva impact millions of lives every day. 
  • Be flexible, pragmatic, strategic, tenacious, and take ownership of deliverables and outcomes – you gotta have hustle!
