  • Strategic Thinking
    • Responsibility: Define and drive our company’s ELA roadmap, with a focus on Newsela ELA and Newsela Writing
    • Duties:
      • Set a vision for a prioritized reading and writing roadmap, with a focus on better supporting a) in-product explicit instruction and scaffolding, b) developmentally appropriate foundational skill development, and c) product experiences where writing exercises can enhance reading comprehension (and vice versa).
      • Align roadmap decisions with customer needs, platform capabilities, and broader business goals.
  • Data Literacy
    • Responsibility: Monitor and interpret data to inform strategy
    • Duties:
      • Track market trends, emerging research in the learning sciences and science of reading, and customer usage patterns.
      • Use both qualitative and quantitative data to identify needs and opportunities within the Newsela product ecosystem.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Responsibility: Ensure effective collaboration across teams to execute strategy
    • Duties:
      • Partner with other members of the Research & Development division (including other content and platform product managers, learning designers, researchers, and designers) to ensure your roadmap is well understood and executed on time.
      • Advise on reading- and writing-related projects and initiatives led by other content and platform product managers
      • Collaborate with Marketing to communicate upcoming releases and their value to educators and to customer-facing staff.
      • Act as a subject-matter expert and responsive collaborator on initiatives that require knowledge of the science of reading.

Why you’re a great fit:

  • Required experience: 3+ years of experience in curriculum, content strategy, and product management at an educational publishing or technology company (or equivalent experience)
  • Required skills:
    • Strategic thinking and the ability to prioritize competing ideas
    • Subject matter expertise in the science of reading
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfort interpreting and acting on qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Required education: Bachelor’s in Education or a related field (advanced degree a plus)
  • Preferences:
    • Experience working with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence), Tableau, Heap, and AppCues
    • Experience collaborating with data scientists to design AI-driven content or product features
    • Work experience supporting learners at the secondary level

Base Compensation: $85,000 - $100,000. Total compensation for this role also includes incentive stock options and benefits. This compensation range may be adjusted based on actual experience.
