Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Square Seller Experience team is looking for a Content Designer for Square’s AI products and chat experiences. Our team thinks outside of individual products and focuses on the entire experience a seller has in evaluating, signing up for, and using Square. We build and pave the sellers' path to getting value from our vast ecosystem of products and services. Our mission is to unify, personalize, and support seller experiences across Square.
You will partner with product designers, product managers, researchers, engineering and legal to increase usability and ease of use across our products. You’ll also help to build the processes we will rely on to grow the Content Design discipline within our team and across the company. You will report to the Design Manager.
This position is remote from the US or Canada.
You will:
Define and drive the conversational UX of our AI and chat experiences, in collaboration with subject matter experts, content writers, product managers, and other partners across Square.
Design conversational touch points such as greetings, transitions, proactive notifications, and hand-offs—balancing multiple constraints, goals, and stakeholders to create a smooth seller experience.
Plan for, strategize, and evangelize ways to implement emerging technologies such as GPT-4 and other ML-driven dialogue models.
Be hands-on — designing and writing for AI product teams. This includes the smallest micro copy to the most visible headlines and everything in between.
Work embedded in design teams as a driver of content-informed design. Collaborate in Figma and have an active voice in design critiques. Use your content design knowledge to tease out design flaws and derive elegant solutions.
Help the Product Design team become more efficient by developing processes and workflows for collaborating with Content Designers.
Drive best practices for Content Design in collaboration with our design systems team as well as other Content Designers across the company.
Build strong relationships with cross-functional team members and leads across the organization, and speak to processes and value of the writing discipline.
Apply metrics, data, design research, usability testing, customer support insights, and more to inform content and language decisions.
Manage your workload of multiple projects with different collaborators.
You have:
At least (5) years of relevant professional experience as a Content Designer.
A portfolio with examples of previous Content Design work specifically showing how you improved in-product user experience.
Experience being embedded in a product design team with whom you collaborate closely.
Experience identifying customer intent, NLP, or interaction design and applying it to your Content Design work.
Experience navigating ambiguity and lack of structure.
Strong attention to detail with regard to grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Comfortable providing feedback on UI/UX designs, asking thoughtful questions about product strategy, and applying learnings from quantitative and qualitative research.
Experience using design software tools like Figma and Sketch.
Even better:
Experience working on AI and/or chat products or a strong interest in them.
