We have a fantastic opportunity for a Lead Content Designer to focus on the next evolution of our UI Platform. The UI Platform org is responsible for some of Atlassian’s most critical platform capabilities across our developer tooling, code health and developer experience as well as housing the Atlassian Design System, the cornerstone of crafting quality experiences at scale for our Makers — designers and developers who rely on us every single day to ship quality customer experiences.Your coaching, leadership and craft execution skills will be critical in helping us to execute against our vision and strategy within UI Platform.
In this role you will also be a part of a thriving and fast-growing content design community of 130 individuals that play a vital role in delivering awesome customer experiences and ensuring that you are a part of helping to lift the maturity and content practices at Atlassian.

In this role you will:

  • Work in partnership with our Lead Product Designer to establish a strong content design presence and direction as part of our vision for the UI Platform strategy.
  • Drive an overarching content strategy and content operations framework across UI Platform.
  • Have a strong perspective on elevating the content system to scale in alignment with the Atlassian Design System.
  • Work with UIP cross-discipline leaders to propose, seek buy-in, and support for content strategy-driven outcomes and a program of work which is then led by the team’s content designers.
  • Take ownership of driving strategic initiatives within UI Platform which align and support our organizations' goals across the Atlassian Design System and our App Infra and Dev Infra teams. Examples include increasing adoption and consistency at scale for content execution.
  • Determine the best tools, resources, and guidelines which should be a part of a content system and UI Platform.
  • Work with XD leadership to solve resourcing and/or succession planning for team members from a craft point of view.
  • Focus on foundational elements of content in (setting, incorporating, governance)
  • Style: Editorial style guides, terminology lists, nomenclature, grammar.
  • Voice/Tone: How to write for the brand or product.
  • Content in components and patterns: real-life copy, specific guidelines, best practices.
  • Content patterns and types: How-to guidance for pieces of content that get written over and over again (headlines, error messages, contextual help, help articles, and other content types).
  • Define contribution model for CD standards/foundations as it relates to our UI Platform
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders across Atlassian to raise the organization’s content maturity:
  • Design Hub: to ensure alignment across content practices and standards, tooling and onboarding processes for new content designers.
  • Content Ops and Strategy: to ensure alignment on scalable content publishing processes and standards.
  • Accessibility -to champion accessibility writing standards and ensure that these are translated into our Atlassian Design System as it pertains to content.
  • Brand -Ensuring that our voice and tone guidelines, language, and content maturity from a branding perspective is translated and applied to our content system for practical usage by our makers.
  • Product and Platform Content Design Leads: Working collaboratively to refine content standards contribution processes and make sure the content direction that Atlassian Design System takes both reflects and helps shape the wider practice.
  • Will also be a part of the Atlassian-wide Content Leads Guild to ensure you are aligning with other content and CX leaders across Atlassian.

To be successful we expect you to have:

  • A minimum of 8+ years UX writing or content design experience and able to show a portfolio that includes UX and technical writing samples, workflows, content templates, style guides, or standards for different content types.
  • Experience in creating and driving content strategies
  • Experience working in the technical dev doc and developer content design side
  • An understanding of design systems and how content systems align with them
  • Experience contributing to publishing and managing content using content management systems as well as other technical means such docs as code content.
  • Experience moving fluidly between high-level content strategy practices and hands-on writing tasks.
  • Ability to use data-informed insights by synthesizing and applying user research to decision-making and execution of strategies.
  • Skills in planning, prioritizing and carrying out complex projects with high attention to detail.
  • Have incredible communication skills that help you influence internal and external teams, and build working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe. You are able to tell a story and tailor your narrative to relevant audiences.

It’s great, but not required for you to have:

  • Familiarity with Atlassian products and platforms
  • Event speaking and connections across the content industry
  • Coding experience
