About the team:

At Gusto, we're dedicated to simplifying the complex world of business operations. As a powerful People Platform, we offer a comprehensive suite of essential products including payroll, benefits, time tracking and more, all designed to streamline processes and empower businesses to thrive. Our commitment to world-class customer experience sets us apart.

About the opportunity:

We’re looking for an IC content design leader to join our core application teams as the most senior content design practitioner at Gusto. You’ll partner with product teams on our highest priority features, and regularly ship customer-facing products. You’ll drive customer-facing UI copy, content hierarchies, user flows, and information architecture across the Gusto platform.

You’ll be the content design partner for Gusto’s core offerings including payroll, benefits, and HR products. You’ll work with senior design leadership to identify and prioritize the highest impact opportunities for content design expertise. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional feature teams to make sure our products are easy to understand and use. You’ll be a key leader in Gusto’s content design discipline, driving content standards and resources that empower others to build their content skills. Depending on your career goals, there’s an opportunity to shape the future of the content design practice and engagement model at Gusto.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Proactively gather context on product roadmaps across your scope, and prioritize the initiatives where you’ll have the most impact.
  • Ship customer-facing UI content, content hierarchies, user flows, and information architectures. You’ll do this independently in some cases, but mostly by pairing with cross-functional partners across product design, product management, and engineering.
  • Collaborate with design leaders to set UX direction at the feature and product level.
  • Work with growth teams to make sure Gusto’s voice and key messages are cohesive across marketing and in-app touchpoints.
  • Support cross-functional teams in refining their own UI content and learning basic content design skills.
  • Define and document platform-wide content standards and naming conventions.
  • Champion the content design practice across Gusto.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Breadth of impact: You should have demonstrated experience prioritizing your focus across a number of opportunities, and be able to articulate how you made prioritization and tradeoff decisions.
  • Builder mindset: The person in this role will ship customer-facing products, not just documentation and frameworks. You should have examples of features you played a key role in designing and shipping. Ideally you can demonstrate how you iterated on the content quality of these features over time.
  • High quality bar: This role will be a tireless advocate for our customers’ experience with Gusto. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve championed content quality across an organization, and improved teams’ content skills and ways of working.
  • Comprehensive content toolkit: The person in this role will do more than UI writing. You should have a well-rounded content design practice, ideally including aspects of information architecture, UX design (especially information hierarchies and user flows), and evaluative research. You should be able to demonstrate how you’ve had structural and strategic impact on your past projects.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.
