We are looking for a Senior Design Manager/Head of Design in India to lead designers and operate within a leadership squad within Jira Platform, working together to define the future of work management.

Jira Platform is part of our Cloud Platform team that enables Atlassian products to create ways to help all teams to come together, collaborate, and control their workflows. We partner and collaborate with many product teams across Atlassian, ensure we are collecting their requirements and building an experience for our customers across products.

As the Senior Design Manager, you will lead a team of Design Managers, passionate Product and Content Designers, and partner deeply with your peers in Engineering, Product Management, Research & Insights, and Program Management to accomplish Jira Platform's mission. You will report to the Head of Design for Jira Platform.

In addition to operational management and strategic projects, you will also provide regional leadership in India and Europe for our design team which includes hosting rituals, onboarding new team members, safeguarding quality levels, promoting local connection within the design practice, and attracting new talent.

As a design leader of the core platform area, you will work across 14 cross-functional teams to understand their needs and ensure our solutions scale, improve, and delight our customers. You will specifically lead 3 main domains in Jira Platform: Search, Enterprise Features and Foundations. These domains will experience high growth in the future and you will identify and embed designers where they will make the most impact.Leading this space means you get to improve digital experiences for over 180,000 customers in 190 countries. Your work will directly affect tens of thousands of customers and millions of users!

What you will do:

Work within an R&D leadership team to shape the ways that teams collaborate across projects.
Guide the customer experience strategies to improve Atlassian products.
Provide cross-craft teams with the mentorship, leadership, and support necessary to envision and ship specific projects with a user focus.
Lead and inspire a motivated team of designers across Australia and India. With a passion for developing others, you'll coach and inspire your team towards success and cohesion.
Bring your experience of customer-centric design thinking and practices to our teams.
Establish (and maintain) a high-quality bar for shipped design work with your team.

Your Background:

Bring the previous experience having led customer experience strategy with teams at scale.
Have experience leading platform experiences with enterprise-level scale and delivering value to multiple stakeholders. Have experience in a high-complexity environment.
Have experience planning and then driving product direction autonomously as a hands-on designer, then subsequently as a manager. Be able to identify where design adds value in technical teams, build the case, scope the work, hire and onboard designers.
Experience collaborating with other functions such as Engineering and Product Management. Experience working in teams in a matrix environment is preferred.
Clear communicator with a high degree of influence with internal partners, including senior leadership.
Passionate about the craft of customer experience and bring a breadth of skills sets to Atlassian. Lead different sub-crafts, including service designers, content designers, product designers, and researchers.

We'd love for you to:

Have experience leading designers across multiple product domains simultaneously (15 yrs+).
Be an experienced people manager (5+ yrs) with experience developing your team. You will lead both people managers and individual contributors.
Be able to show an example of having lead a cross-craft project that delivered measurable improvement to users
Experience improving and sustaining design rituals at the team level
Have experience with Jira, SaaS, or high-complexity B2B software product
Have experience working in multi-disciplinary/cross-craft teams (triad structure with product and engineering would be ideal)
