Canva Design School offers free design courses, featuring some of the world’s leading experts in their respective fields. Our vision for Design School is to become the best place in the world to learn design, and to offer the best online learning experience possible.

Our Design School team has a wide range of all-round skills. They’re designers, teachers, facilitators, creatives and doers. They facilitate in-person and in-product learning and continuously grow their skills and our courses along with our product and content library.

Above all else, Design School aims to make the complex simple, taking big broad topics and and making them applicable, engaging and accessible to everyone. Our team has the ability to take a complex thing and communicate it simply with visuals.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Design Lead who can lead and inspire design teams and deliver best-in-class design solutions. You’ll be confident leading design direction across a number of different formats and have experience mentoring designers to do their best work. You are a humble and highly collaborative leader that motivates and inspires the team.

You will be part of the Design Education team and work closely with the Canva Creative Marketing team to align on design direction.

As the Design Lead for Design Education you’ll be responsible for;

Crafting the design vision for Design Education content, including creating playbooks for different content streams
Collaborating with the Brand Creative team to finalise design direction and collaborate where needed
Translating complex information into simple and accessible visual communication to assist learning outcomes
Defining how educational content can translate into different content formats and channels
Work with the Design Education team leads to refine design workflow and forecast team growth
Leading Mentor a team of designers, supporting their growth grow their skills and helping them deliver their best work
Being a brand custodian ensuring brand consistency, strong brand voice and brand integrity across all of our creative work

Experience you'll have

5+ years experience in a forward-thinking design leadership role
Experience managing a team of designers, leading and mentoring design teams of 4-10 people, providing professional support and development for junior and senior members of the team.
Experience working with global brands
Good experience with branding and brand systems
Strong knowledge of a range of design formats that sit across multiple channels digital design and formats
Ability to motivate and influence others by displaying strong leadership skills
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
